Four. I was wrong. I was able to get her off four times. Twice with my hand, once with my tongue, and then finally on my dick. Cora moves around the kitchen, grabbing everything they need for the day. I watch her panic as she moves, trying to grab her things for work, as well as some things for Noah.
Shifting to the fridge, I pull out some ingredients to make a sandwich for Noah and grab some fruit. Cora said he’s not allergic to anything, so I figure grapes are fair game.
“Noah!” Cora yells. “Let’s go. I have to be at the library early.”
“Why don’t I take him for the day?” I offer. It’ll give me some time to get to know him better.
“I don’t know.” She gives me a thoughtful look.
Pulling Cora into my arms, I drop a kiss to her forehead. “Stop it. I can take Noah so you can get to work. I’ll see you later at the shop with dinner. Noah’s costume should be here today anyway. It’ll be a boys’ day.”
“What’s a boys’ day?” Noah asks, standing in the doorway. He’s dressed for the day with another bag packed full of things to keep him occupied, including some schoolwork.
“It’s what we’re going to do,” I explain, earning a scowl from Cora.
“I don’t have to hang out at the library?” He looks at her with hope.
Sighing, Cora tosses her hands in the air. “Fine, but you have to behave. Do the homework your teacher sent, and practice reading. I expect it to be done when I see you later.”
Noah’s face lights up, and it sends a jolt through my chest. Not only is Cora trusting me with him, but Noah seems genuinely excited to spend time with me.
Cora is the most important person in my world, and because hers revolves around Noah, that means he’s important to me too. It’s going to be a good day.
“You ready for some fun?”
Chapter Thirty-Four
Cora
I’m sore in places I didn’t even know you could be sore. The way Atlas used my body has me blushing as I sit at the circulation desk. It’s a slow morning, and I’m thankful for the break. Lately, it seems like everything is happening all at once, and I can barely keep up.
Noah and me both getting sick, and then him getting in trouble at school, was a first for us. I was shocked that Atlas offered to take him for the day. Last night, when we were getting ready to leave, I watched how he interacted with Noah. He doesn’t treat him like a little kid, but more like another person.
I know he doesn’t have much experience around kids, but he seems to be a natural. He’s not bothered by the responsibilities of me taking care of Noah, and all that entails. If anything, he’s been really hands-on and supportive.
Atlas took Noah shortly after he was packed, giving me time to get ready. I decided on a corduroy skirt with a cream sweater. I’ve had it forever but haven’t had a chance to wear it. It’s incredibly soft and makes my blue eyes pop.
Grabbing a pair of tights and ankle boots, I completed the lookwith a jacket and earrings. After giving myself a once-over in the mirror, I was ready to go.
After spending the morning re-shelving books, I look online for some grants. Little kids are hard on books, and we could definitely use some replacements. I’m so engrossed in what I’m doing, I don’t notice someone standing in front of me right away.
“Well, if it isn’t the tattoo shop whore.” Staring at the girl in front of me, I try to figure out where I know her from.
“Excuse me? I don’t even know who you are.” I narrow my eyes.
“Don’t be stupid. You’re the one sleeping with Kash.” She points a finger in my direction and shouts. I am seriously glad there are not many people here. A few patrons are sitting around at tables, but they all have headphones on.
“First, you’re in a library, so lower your voice. Second, I’m not sleeping with Kash. You’re that girl from the shop… Bri.” I snap my fingers. That’s her name.
“Don’t act all innocent. I heard you work here, and I don’t see the appeal. Kash and I had something good. If you’re smart, you’ll quit and keep your distance.”
Standing at my full height, which isn’t much compared to the tall, dark-haired girl in front of me, I meet her glare. No one talks down to me. “If you’re not here to get books or use any of our services, then get out, or I’ll call the police again. You need to forget all about Kash and the guys. It’s obvious he isn’t interested. Have some respect for yourself.” I shake my head.
“Look, bitch?—”
“Is there a problem here?” Annie appears at my side, smiling sweetly. “Can I help you, ma’am?”
“No,” Bri grits out.
