“That’s an order,” he says.
I know technically I don’t have to listen to him. He’s an alpha, but he’s notmyalpha.
Gage is the leader. Gage is the one who calls the shots here.
But Diego is also sort of his right-hand man, and he’s never given me a direct order before, so something about that feels monumental. Like he wouldn’t do it if he didn’t think the reason was just.
So, instead of fighting him like I want, I nod. I let out a choked whimper, wiping my eyes.
“Okay,” I say.
He gently guides me out of my office, shutting off the light. “Sí.”
And then I let him guide me down the hall to my quarters, and when I find my bed, I collapse, letting the darkness take me under.
Chapter 17
Emmett
“So, this is uh…” I clear my throat, looking at the closed door, which is right across from Olly’s room.
I know it shouldn’t matter. But I can’t shake the feeling that it does matter to me. Not that I think Olly would get up in the middle of the night and wander over here, to Auryn’s room, but…
What would stop her from wandering to his? And why do I care if she does in the first place? I’m pretty sure even if she climbed into bed with him, he wouldn’t touch her. Not in the way I would if she wandered into my bed…
Olly’s just…built differently than the rest of us. Honestly, he’s the safest to be around if you’re an omega in heat, that’s for sure. I’m pretty sure he’s never had a girlfriend—or boyfriend, because hey, I don’t judge—and I’m pretty sure aside from what I witnessed, he’s not exactly as experienced with people in general as he is with dead bodies and medical bullshit.
But still, my alpha feels uncomfortable as shit knowing he’ll be practically ten feet away from Auryn.
A low growl escapes me but I shake it off, because the last thing I want is for Auryn to think I’m pissed off at her.
Far from it.
“Where you’ll be staying, I guess.”
She glances at me from the side, and even though she barely comes up to my chest, somehow that look makes her seem ten feet tall.
Like she’sjudgingme.
She has every right to, I guess. I haven’t been winning any prizes for the welcoming committee here.
“And where areyoustationed?” she asks carefully. I nod two doors down.
“Room at the end of the hall.”
“That’s Gage—” I point to the room next to hers on the same side.
“And whose is that?” she asks, nodding to the room across from us. My lips purse as I debate lying, but what good would it do? I want her to trust us, and lying won’t get me anywhere.
And maybe Gage’s words weigh on me a little too heavily. You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.
“Olly’s,” I say, coughing his name because fuck, it does piss me off.
If I’m being honest, he’s always pissed me off with his superiority complex. Always acting like he’s smarter than me. Better than me.
He’s not. But, still…
Auryn smirks at me before pointing to the room next to Olly’s. “Which means that’s Diego?”
