Kenzo walked to his door with determination in his steps. I had to run to keep up with his long, powerful strides. Once we made it to the door, Kenzo opened it, and whispers could be heard, but when the group noticed Kenzo’s hulking frame, the voices went quiet. Peeking around Kenzo, I noticed four men, all big in their own right but nowhere the size of Kenzo.

“Can I help you?” Kenzo words may have been polite, but his tone and demeanor were the exact opposite. I could hear the malice and threats in his voice and see it in his body language. He was pissed that these men had shown up uninvited.

The lightest of the men stepped forward, and he stole a glance at me. He didn’t look happy to see me there. “Kenzo, we do not wish to disturb you, but we’ve heard some things from our members.” The man stopped talking to give me another cold look before turning his attention back to Kenzo. “We wanted to see if it was true.”

Cocking his head to the side, Kenzo looked at the man unbothered. “And what exactly did y’all hear?”

“That you’d taken another disgusting she-wolf as your mate. Didn’t you learn from the last she-wolf who?—”

In the blink of an eye, Kenzo had the brown-skinned man’s throat tightly in his hand, squeezing it and cutting off his words before he could finish. Kenzo easily lifted his body like the man weighed nothing.

“Darius, I only tolerate your existence because I respect your father. How he raised a bitch like you is beyond me, but my tolerance for you won’t extend to you disrespecting my current mate or my past mate. Let this be the one and only time I tell you,” Kenzo gritted, then dropped the man’s body to the ground without a care.

A pain stung my chest. I didn’t like seeing Kenzo taking up for his past lover. I should have been the only one to have his heart.

“Calm down, Kenzo. We didn’t come here to upset you,” the first man said while stepping up between Kenzo and the man on the ground holding his throat.

“Then what the fuck did you come here for, Mateo?” Kenzo said while looking at the light-skinned man named Mateo.

“We came to you council member to council member to ask you to step down. We sat back and watched the destruction caused by your last mate. We don’t need a repeat, and seeing as she shares a similar face to your last mate, we believe the death she will cause will be the same as before. As council members, it is our job to lead by example. We can’t be seen with just any shifter as you hav?—”

“Fuck you bitch-ass shifters. You forget what family gave your families the little authority they have now. I’m not stepping down. If you want me to step down… then challenge me, but know I’m killing whoever tries me,” Kenzo said as he squared his shoulders and looked at the men without an ounce of fear.

“Kenzo, we don’t want it to come to that,” Mateo spoke up once again.

“Get the fuck from my steps if you not tryna challenge me,” Kenzo demanded calmly.

“We will go for now, but, Kenzo, this isn’t over,” Mateo said with hard eyes bouncing between Kenzo and me.

“Bitch, you know where I’ll be,” Kenzo spat before watching the men descend the stairs.

“Who are they and what was that all about?” I asked Kenzo once he shut the door and turned to face me.

“A bunch of bitch-ass Bear shifters. I’ll explain later. I don’t feel like talking about them right now. They not important.” Kenzo sounded annoyed about having to talk about the shifters who were just at his door.

“Put them in their place and take your place as Alpha.”

We turned to see Tiny and Minnie hovering behind us with the same amused expression. “You know it is your destiny to be the leader. It is time to take back what was given before it becomes corrupted.”

“I don’t want to be nobody’s Alpha. I’ll leave that to the wolves.” Kenzo waved the sisters off.

“It’s not about what you want. It’s what you are destined to be. Going against Fate is foolish,” Minnie spoke.

“He will see on his own, sister. We did not come here for that. The Kismet Pack is where you two should be.”

“Why?” Kenzo asked with a frown on his face.

“That is the place Fate has called you to be,” the sisters replied while frowning at Kenzo.

“I’m cool here,” Kenzo answered matter-of-factly.

“He acts like the foolish brother. I don’t like him,” Minnie replied with a tight frown.

“Their paths are one,” Tiny replied. “Bellamy, can you help us? Your mate is a little stubborn, but you have the ability to sway his mind.” A warm smile spread across her face.

“Me?” I asked while pointing to my chest. She nodded as a reply. “I mean, I could try.” I shrugged my shoulders while looking at Kenzo, who was looking at me curiously. “Kenzo.”

“No,” he said flatly before I could say anything else.
