She took the book, and then looked at him before flicking to the first page. There were notes and doodles, and she came to the Halloween leaflet design. This surprised her, as it was so amazing. There were multiple sketches, and she saw that he had taken just one.
His artwork was not over the top, but it made sense. She even turned the page and gasped to see his plans for the Christmas lights.
“That’s amazing, Hawk.”
“Yeah, well, we’ll see, as it is still early days.”
She laughed and handed him back his book.“I can see why your company is so successful.”
“Yeah.”
She frowned.“What’s the matter?”
“Nothing.”
“Come on, you can tell me.”
“Would you be shocked to learn that I had more fun creating that leaflet than I had creating so many brand campaigns?”he asked.“I think this town is messing with my head.”
“Or your circumstances.”
“You know, I’ve never allowed anyone to look at my book,” he said.
“Then, I feel honored you let me.”
She moved toward him and snuggled in close.
“Just so you know, that coffee is a pumpkin spiced one.”
Katie gasped.“Pumpkin spice. How did you know what I like?”
“Because I know you, and I know what you like.”He kissed the top of her head.
She was falling for this man, and it was a scary thought.
“How about I help you with the decorating?”he asked.
“Sure thing. You know, with how much time you spend at my place, I’m going to have to start paying you.”
“Nah, then it would become a job, and I don’t think for a second that would be fun.Let’s stick to what we do best.”He looked up and winked at her.
She couldn’t help but giggle.
For the next couple of hours, she served customers, in between helping Hawk decorate her shop. They were able to do it quite quickly.By lunchtime, they were done, but the shop was too full, and Hawk left to get them some food.
She served all the customers and it wasn’t too hard, as they were all quite determined in what they wanted, and she was more than happy to smile and greet them.
Then, she was alone for a second, before her mother entered the shop.
“Hey, honey,” she said.
“Hey, Mom, did you bring lunch, because if you did, I’m going to have to call Hawk.”
“No, no, I didn’t.I was in town, shopping for your father. You know how it is.”Her mother always liked to get the Christmas shopping done early. There was never a year her mother wasn’t prepared.“I thought I would stop by.I watched you and Hawk, and I have to say, your place looks amazing.Very Halloween-y and festive.”
Katie smiled.“Thanks, but I think I’m going to have to give Hawk all the credit. He knows what he’s doing, whereas I do not.”
“You know, it has been a long time since I saw you smile like this.It warms my heart to see you this happy.”
