“Huh?” I ask.
“Honey. You know you’re talking to yourself, right?”
“Sorry.” I shake my head. “I didn’t realize.”
“Such a cute little quirk. You’ve been doing that since you were in nursery school,” she comments. “So, what is it? What’s eating at you?”
“It’s this girl.”
“Courtney?”
“No.”
“The new one?”
I nod. “Her name’s Gracie.”
“Something’s wrongalready?” she asks.
“I screwed everything up,” I say. I hate the sound my voice is making. If Dom was here, he’d tell me to quit being such a punk bitch and go out and get under the next female pulse available.
“So, fix it,” she says matter-of-factly.
“This was a biggie, Daisy. I’m not sure Icanfix it.”
“Have you tried yet?”
“Sort of.”
“Nope. Not good enough. Try harder. Try with everything you’ve got.”
“What if it’s not enough?”
“Keep trying. You’re a good guy, Colin. Whatever it was, I’m sure it wasn’t as bad as you’re making it out to be.”
“You have no idea,” I say.
“Hit me with it then,” she says.
“Let’s just say I may have destroyed Gracie’s career.”
“Really? How?” she asks.
“By royally pissing off her agent.”
“Heragent? It’s not Elle, is it?”
“The one and only.”
Daisy shakes her head. “Oh, dear.”
“Exactly.”
“I didn’t know your new love interest was an author.”
“Yes. The operative word beingwas.”
“What did you do, exactly?”
