Since then, I’ve been spending a lot of time appreciating my La-Z-Boy. Thankfully, May is still sweeps, so there’s been some good TV to watch.

The weather’s getting nicer too, so I’ve been trying to make an effort to take walks during the day. Walking helps me clear my head, especially on days like today, where George Friere just about broke my heart lamenting his lost spouse and how she made him laugh.

The sun is shining, so I tell Daisy I’m going out for lunch. I walk down to the East River, grab takeout from Nuevo Vallarta Grill, and head back to the office. A healthy dose of vitamin D along with a Cali-style burrito does me good.

I get back to the office and change out of my sneakers and back into my work shoes. I drag my forefinger along the trackpad of my laptop to wake it up, which is when I notice I’ve got a new email message.

Holy shit.

It’s from Gracie.

Dear Colin,

I know it’s been a while since we spoke. I hope you’re doing well.

I wanted to tell you that I’m sorry for everything that went wrong last month. I’m well-known for making mistakes. (It’s actually one of my specialties.) But I’m also pretty good at apologizing.

So, I’m attaching for your review a new manuscript that I need your help with. I’ve been working on it incessantly and it’s almost done. If you are open to my apology, please read the attached. If not, well, maybe just read the first few pages and hopefully you’ll reconsider.

In any case, I hope to hear from you soon.

Xoxo,

Gracie

It’s amazing how fast you can write when the story is alive insideyour head. In fact, I’ve never put roughly 85,000 words down on paper so quickly in my entire life.

Today marks one complete revolution of the moon. I got a call from Mrs. A this morning to remind me.

“Olga is send me text message to remind me the moon is full circle today,” she told me.

“You won’t believe this, but I marked it on my calendar,” I said in response.

“Of course, my littlekhomyak. You remember because this man is future husband for you.”

“What?” I laughed. “I wouldn’t take it that far. Colin and I couldn’t even make it to two weeks. And what is akhomyak?”

“Not sure how you say in English. Like small pet for in cage. Fluffy mouse with fat cheeks.”

“Like a hamster?”

“Yes!” she exclaimed. “That is it. My baby hamster. You store love in cheeks for winter like fluffy hamster storing food. This boy is marry you.”

“He doesn’t even call me anymore.”

“Is not my guess, Gracie. Olga is telling me. Olga is study for mystic, so she is knowing what come next in story.”

“Well, if that turns out to be true, then I will let you plan the whole wedding.” I laughed.
