Chapter 23
Rory
StoppedoutsideGio’sofficedoor, I eavesdropped on the conversation he was having with Enzo.
“Everything’s quiet,” my husband’s cousin and second-in-command reported.
“Too quiet,” Gio grumbled. “Like the calm before the storm.”
Enzo chuckled. “Literally, in this case. They’re saying this could be worse than the Blizzard of ’99 with sub-zero temps and high winds. It could be up to a week before the roads are passable again. You got enough supplies to make it through?”
There was a grunt in response. “Plenty of firewood in case the power goes out too.”
I shivered at the mere thought. Sure, I was sweating my ass off around the clock at nine months pregnant, but losing heat for days on end in this kind of weather could be deadly.
“Okay, if you’re sure you’re all good here, I’m going to head back to the city before the snow hits.”
“Keep me updated if anything changes,” Gio commanded.
At the sound of approaching footsteps, I pressed my back against the wall, eyes squeezed shut with the childish belief that if I couldn’t see Enzo, he wouldn’t be able to see me.
His low chuckle as he paused on the threshold had me inwardly groaning.
Busted.
I cracked one eye open. “How much to pretend you didn’t see me?”
The smirk on Enzo’s face only grew. “Wouldn’t be fair to take your money when he’s known you were lurking out here the whole time.”
My nose wrinkled as I huffed in annoyance.
Leaning in, he pressed a kiss to my cheek. “Stay safe, okay?”
“Easier said than done,” I grumbled.
He pulled back, muttering wryly, “Don’t I know it. But do me a favor and try anyway.”
Shrugging, I replied, “I’ll do my best.”
“That’s all I can ask.” With a mock salute and wink, he made his exit.
“Rory?” Gio’s voice called through the open doorway.
My head dropped back against the wall with a thump. “Yeah?”
“Are you planning to stand out there all night, or would you like to come in?”
I peeked around the edge of the doorframe. “I don’t want to bother you if you’re working.”
He shoved back from his desk. “The city’s about to shut down. Not much I can do until it comes back to life in a few days.”
Curling his fingers, Gio beckoned me closer, and I was powerless to deny his request. When I was close enough, he tugged me between his spread legs, his fingers teasing beneath my silky nightgown to skim my inner thigh.
A moan spilled into the air when he dragged those digits through my slit, his skilled touch concentrating on my clit and stoking the flames of my arousal.
Licking a path up the side of my neck until his mouth was poised beside my ear, he rasped, “I know of a way we can pass the time.”
Shallow panting breaths lifted my breasts, the friction of my hypersensitive nipples against his chest lighting up the pleasure centers in my brain. “You do?”
