Heat blooms through my whole body, soft and overwhelming.
Lex pulls back just enough for our foreheads to touch.
“That answers your question,” he whispers, “or should I kiss you again?”
My breath shudders out of me.
This—whatever this is—feels nothing like a mistake.
And everything like the beginning of something that could break us both.
Lex presses another slow kiss to my mouth before pulling back, just enough for our breaths to mix. His hands remain on mywaist like he’s subconsciously staking a claim.
“We should talk,” he murmurs.
My stomach twists.
“Yeah… we probably should.”
Silence settles between us, thick and hazy. Lex runs a hand down his face, then through his hair, messing it up even worse. If he didn’t look like sin already, he sure does now.
“So,” I begin, pulling the sheet a little tighter around my waist.
“How do we… act? In public. Because no one’s going to believe we suddenly don’t hate each other.”
Lex scoffs.
“Hate you? Princess, I’ve been obsessed with you since the day you moved in.”
The word princess hits me low in my stomach. Heat crawls up my neck.
“But yeah,” he adds, “we need a plan. Because last night doesn’t change the fact that everyone thinks we’re one argument away from murdering each other.”
“And we can’t exactly show up to breakfast holding hands,” I mutter.
Lex smirks.
“You think I’m capable of acting normal around you after last night?”
I swallow hard.
“Okay,” I say.
“So in public, we stay the same.”
“Unfortunately,” he agrees, rolling his eyes dramatically.
“I still get to bully you in front of everyone.”
“That’s not funny.”
“It’s a little funny,” he says, nudging me with his shoulder.
“But when it’s just us…”
His voice drops.
“In private, you’re mine.”
