Rowan grinned and pulled me into a firm, chaste kiss before pushing me away once more. “Just making up for a lot of lost time.”

My smile softened and I smoothed a hand over his atop the gear stick. Gathering my thoughts, I turned in my seat and pushed the car door open, heaving myself out of the low seats.

“Text me later when you get home?” I asked, bending down to look into the car.

Rowan nodded and gave me a half-wave. I slammed the door shut and headed inside; a huge, goofy grin plastered all over my face.

My keys crunched in the lock as I let myself into the flat. Oliver was sitting where he always was, playing a game. He didn’t look up when I walked into the lounge, so I ignored him and headed for the kitchen. With my head inside the fridge, I heard him shout.

“Where have you been?”

“Out,” I replied tersely. I was still annoyed with him about how he’d spoken to me that night he’d forgotten his keys, but I knew I’d be waiting forever for an apology from him.

“You pull, or something?”

I slammed the fridge shut, cracking open a can of Coke. I took a swig before wandering back out to face him.

“That’s none of your business.”

Oliver snorted. “That’s a yes, then.”

“Have you spoken to Becca recently?” I took another sip from my can, smirking as Oliver’s concentration lapsed and he smashed his digital car into a barrier.

“Ah, fuck,” he hissed, furiously tapping buttons. “No, have you?”

“Of course I have. She’s one of my best friends.”

“I did text her, but she didn’t reply. Is she mad at me or something?” Oliver asked, feigning nonchalance.

I shrugged. “Probably. If you were half as much of a prick to her as you were to me when you forgot your keys, I don’t blame her.”

“Ah, so you’re still pissy about that, hm?” Oliver frowned. “You’re such a fucking queen sometimes, you know that?”

“And you fucking suck at apologies,” I snapped, turning on my heel to leave.

“Look, I’d had way too much to drink, and I wasn’t myself, alright?” Oliver shouted.

I paused, waiting to hear him out.

“I shouldn’t have made such a big deal out of it, but you stressed me out by not answering your phone.”

“I’m not your keeper, Ol,” I replied. “But fine, you’re forgiven. You call me a prick, or aqueenagain and I’m smacking you in the mouth, clear?”

Oliver smirked. “Crystal. Get me a can?”

I laughed and strode away. “Get it yourself.”

Once I was alone in my bedroom, I sighed. It was quiet and somehow lonely here after spending the last twenty-four hours with Rowan. I shook my head and stripped off, clambering into my bed. A few hours of watching TV and then I’d get an early night. I needed to be fresh for a torturous day of not perving on my boss, and new bed mate.

An hour or so into channel surfing for something decent to watch, my phone buzzed. I picked up, smiling when I saw it was a message from the only person I wanted to hear from.

ROWAN: This bed feels huge without you in it x

MAX: What are you trying to say? I take up a lot of room? x

ROWAN: Haha! It’s alright, I’d happily have my arm go dead whilst you starfish in the middle, any day x

I laughed softly and typed a reply.
