“Raxx, darling, I haven’t seen you—” Tabitha stood suddenly, her eyes narrowing. “What have you done? Your auras are...”

“There has been another development,” Raxx replied, striding across the room to sit in one of the wooden chairs on the opposite side of Tabitha’s desk.

“Goodness is that her...” The witch trailed off as she stared at Raxx intently, tilting her head to the side.

“Faye and I accidentally made prolonged skin on skin contact.”

Tabitha’s lips stretched into a sly smile. “Thatisher energy I can sense? Curious.”

“It wasn’t like that,” Raxx snapped defensively. “Thanks to your antics, I left here a mess last night.”

Though Faye was grateful Raxx wasn’t planning to share their new intimate relationship with the witch, his defensiveness made her bristle with annoyance. Was he embarrassed of her?

“Yes, my apologies – I may have gone atadtoo far with that little experiment.” The witch batted her eyelashes innocently.

“No shit. I barely managed to teleport us out of here. When we crash landed on the other side, I was unconscious. Faye somehow managed to share a portion of her energy with me,” Raxx explained. He leant back in the chair, kicking his boots up onto Tabitha’s desk.

“Feet,” the witch scolded, flicking her arm to the side. Raxx’s chair screeched a few feet backwards across the wooden floor, his legs falling down from the desk with a loud thud.

The witch stood, her yellow eyes snapping to fixate on Faye. The princess shifted from foot to foot.

“May I say, you are looking extremely refreshed for someone who has managed to conduct majick, princess. Lesser mortals have died attempting it.”

“I guess I just—”

Faye shivered and blinked. A strange sensation, like an ice cold, wet tendril of energy, squirmed into her mind. She shook her head, her majick burst forth from her skull, fighting it back.

Tabitha flinched and her eyes flickered. “My, my – youarea strong little witch, aren’t you?”

Raxx glanced between the two women with confusion.

“I’mnota witch,” Faye snapped.

“Not yet, maybe.”

“What’s happening?” Raxx asked.

“Our princess has just successfully blocked my attempt to read her mind.” Despite the amused tone in Tabitha’s voice, there was a hardness behind her eyes that made Faye feel uneasy.

The shadow demon’s brow quirked with surprise. Faye felt her cheeks grow hot as his dark eyes bore into her.

“That was you?” she asked with a scowl. “Do you make a habit of reading other’s minds without asking their consent?”

“Constantly,” Tabitha sighed with a smile. “Tell me Faye, seeing as you will not allow me to discover for myself, how did you know to transfer your energy to Raxx?”

“I didn’t.” Faye shrugged. “It was a mistake.”

“There are no mistakes when it comes to majick phenomenon,” the witch argued.

“So, you’ve heard of this happening before?” Raxx asked curiously.

“I have, though have never had the pleasure of meeting an individual powerful enough to pull it off – at least not without serious repercussions.”

“What does that mean?” the demon asked.

“Nothing I didn’t already know.”

Faye felt her scowl deepen at the witch’s ambiguous response. “Have you had any luck researching how my sister Lori was able to resurrect commander Lephas?”
