There was a moment of tense silence before Raxx shook himself and moved to untie Faye’s ankles.

Thankfully, the effects of having shared Faye’s energy had been short-lived. The desperate tension he had felt the day before had finally eased, and yet the demon had still spent a great deal of time thinking about their intimate moment; it had been a struggle to focus on much else.

From the moment they had met, it felt like they had been flirting around the issue, despite the numerous pitfalls, and he was relieved they had come to the mutual agreementthey were both physically and emotionally attracted to one another.

Despite how much as he had enjoyed their antics, Raxx couldn’t help but wonder how, if ever, they would be able to advance their physical relationship. Would this be enough for them both long term?

Raxx snapped free from his thoughts. He was getting ahead of himself and there were much bigger problems to deal with for now, despite this particular one being the most interesting to ponder.

“Thank you for the broth.”

Raxx tugged the last of the chain free and glanced up at Faye. “You’re welcome. I figured you’d be hungry after you’d slept the worst of your exhaustion off.”

“You figured correctly,” Faye laughed.

“How are you feeling in that respect?” he asked.

“Better.” The princess paused and pressed her lips together. She evaded Raxx’s gaze as he glanced up at her questioningly.

“But?”

“When is Tabitha expecting us?”

Raxx recognised the tone in Faye’s voice immediately and his pulse sped up, majick already beginning to flurry at the mere suggestion.

He grinned. “We’ve got time. Do you want some wine first?”

Faye’s blue eyes flickered to meet his, shining as a small smile crept onto her face.

“That depends. Will you be partaking?”

They weren’t talking about wine, that much was obvious. Raxx cleared his throat.

“With company like yours, I could be persuaded to,” he teased.

Faye’s cheeks flushed and she swung her legs from the side of the bed.

“Let me just grab my gloves.”

Raxx lay flat on his front, his sweat steadily cooling against his skin. The bedclothes lay rumpled at his waist, hiding his modesty. He shivered as Faye stroked gloved fingers along the hard upper edge of one of his wings.

“They’re so different to mine,” she murmured. “How you manage with something so cumbersome attached to you, I’ll never know.”

“You get used to it, though I’ve ripped a few shirts in my time,” Raxx replied, his vision blurring as he relaxed beneath the faerie’s touch.

Faye giggled and rolled away onto her back, pulling at her shirt to cover her bare chest beneath. They lay in a comfortable silence and the demon drifted in and out of a light slumber.

“Do you have any siblings, Raxx?” Faye asked, her voice quiet even in the silent room.

“No.”

“You’re lucky. I’m filled with worry for mine constantly. It’s exhausting,” she sighed.

Sensing the shift in mood, Raxx grunted and lifted himself up onto his elbows. He looked down at the princess, her beautiful white blonde hair was splayed out over his pillow. She smiled at him, yet it did not reach her eyes.

He suddenly recalled his promise to her sister. “Lori sends her love.”
