“They know,” Ethan said.
Kira looked at them and said, “I need a beer for this.” She thought about it for a second. “I need something stronger. What do you have?” She turned to look at Blayne.
“I have vodka in the freezer.”
“Perfect. Just bring me a glass and the bottle.”
Once Kira was settled and started drinking, the group took turns catching her up on the day’s events.
“Heard anything from Murphy?” Blayne asked.
“I’ve been avoiding my girlfriend. You know I can’t lie to her. She’ll see me and immediately know I’m hiding things from her.”
Blayne looked at the band and said, “She’s an amazing liar. Don’t let her fool you.”
“I’m a bluffer,” Kira said. “I can bluff in the courtroom, I can bluff at a poker table in Vegas. With my girlfriend who works for the FB fucking I, I can’t bluff.” Kira took another swig of vodka.
“So, why are you here?” Ethan finally asked.
“I received a text message about a meeting here. I figured you had one of your friends send it.” She gestured with the bottle of vodka at the band.
“No. No one sent a message,” Ethan said.
“That’s because I sent it.”
Dr. Hennigan
All the heads in the room spun to face Dr. Hennigan as she spoke. Denzili and Richardson had entered behind her and immediately fanned out, drawing their weapons and pointing them at the people who sat around the living room.
“You’re them? Aren’t you?” Lucas squeaked out.
“Them who?” Dr. Hennigan asked.
“The psychopathic killers?” Lucas said before he closed his eyes.
Dr. Hennigan wondered if the poor young man was about to shit himself. She looked at Ethan. “Is that how you described us?”
Ethan looked at her and rolled his eyes. “No. I’m sure my language was much more colorful and dramatic than that.” Ethan turned and looked at Richardson. “But I raved about your breakfast. Gave you a five-star review.”
“She made you breakfast?” Kira asked, seeming to get her wits back.
“We woke up, and she was sitting in our room,” Blayne started.
“Don’t worry. We were fully dressed,” Ethan added. “And Blayne was like, I need to help pull my boyfriend together before his meltdown. Please cook us breakfast—and so she did.”
“Babe, are you okay?” Blayne asked, turning to Ethan.
Ethan briefly thought about it. “I’m actually okay.”
“You must be the rest of ZERO.” She turned and looked at each member. “Zach, Ric and Orr.” She looked around the room and caught Lucas, the young man who looked like he would have problems with his bodily functions. “And who are you?”
“Lucas Andrade,” the young man squeaked out.
“Speak up. I couldn’t hear you.”
“Lucas Andrade,” the young man yelled this time.
“Ah yes, Ethan’s new PA.” Dr. Hennigan smiled one of her frighteningly charming smiles. “I am Dr. Hennigan, but I’m assuming all of you already know that from the looks on your faces. These are my associates Denzili and Richardson.” She gestured to the woman and said, “You can put your guns away. Now that we’re all acquainted, there’s no need to flash them around.”
