I noticed Sebastian mumbling under his breath as we walked through the library. His eyes scanned rows of books and his mouth moved quickly.

“Three-hundred-and-eight, three-hundred-and-nine,” he murmured.

“It’ll get better,” I said. He groaned and mumbled quieter. It was Monday but far too late in the night for anyone to be around. I noticed Sebastian’s hands began to tremble, his breath picking up. He shifted slightly closer.

“What’s wrong?” I asked. He was antsy, twisting to look behind us as his pupils dilated like a frightened cat’s.

“Wolfe was hunting me. I’d run here trying to get away.” His words reminded me about the old bites I’d seen on his neck. I’d been too frantic about him changing to give them any thought.

“What happened?” I asked quietly. Our voices carried in the empty library regardless of how soft we talked.

“He was feeding on me. I didn’t know,” he said, shaking his head.

“What are you talking about?” The implication of his words was terrifying. He was being hunted? Why wouldn’t he have said anything to me?

“The dreams,” he whispered, head twisting around as we went deeper into the large room. “Wolfe is a master vampire,” he murmured almost too low for me to hear. It was as if he was scared to say the name. That was an indicator to me of what Wolfe was to him. Not just a nightly attacker but his sire. Hatred burned inside me for the thing that attempted to take Sebastian from me.

“What?” I hissed with vitriol. A master? This mission was doomed from the start. Had the Brotherhood known and just not told us? Hoped it wouldn’t be an issue? Hoped itwould? No, even if they wanted to punish me they wouldn’t have hoped for that.

Fingers pressed on my shoulders and I heard a deep inhale. Sebastian groaned behind me, his body pressing closer.

“I’m hungry,” he whispered to me, his words dancing across my neck. “I’m so hungry Tate. Please,” he begged. I swallowed and shook my head, trying to keep walking as his fingers dug into me harder.

“Let’s get to the safe room first,” I said. I didn’t look behind me at him. If I did I might give in.

“I can’t wait,” he said through clenched teeth. “It’s overwhelming me. I can’t think and I need it now. I won’t take too much. Please, Tate,” he began rasping in a begged plea. His hands moved from my shoulders to my back before sliding around my chest.

I stopped walking and closed my eyes, trying to push off feelings roused from his attention. He kept touching, leaning in, pressing his chest to my back and dragging his hands all over me, pushing his fingers under my shirt and scratching at my skin.

“That’s not fair,” I said through my teeth. My hands wrapped around his wrists and I tugged him off before stomping away.

“Stop, I’m sorry,” Sebastian said, coming up behind me. I walked faster. I would crack if he touched me like that again. I couldn’t help myself with him. “Wait,” he said sharply, grabbing my arm.

“Stop,” I hissed, jerking around and grabbing him by the arms. He stumbled back as I pushed him into a bookcase.

“Stop manipulating me,” I begged, all the fight leaving me. “Youhaveto know how I feel,” I said, letting my naivety wash away. How on earth did I ever think I’d disguised how much I wanted him? It was so obvious that even strangers were aware. Sebastian was smart and he paid attention to people closely.

“Yes… I know,” he admitted, looking me in the eyes calmly.

“Fuck,” I said, pulling my hands off him and walking a few paces away. “How long have you known?” I was terrified to hear the answer. My fingers shook a little. I felt peeled open.

“This past year…” he started and I sagged in relief. He didn’t know it all then. “I ignored it. I thought your interest would go away.”Interest? I snorted and rolled my eyes.

“It’s not,” I said, heading towards the back door. He followed, crawling closer to me in our strides. We made it to the door and I pulled him through, shutting it behind us. He blinked at the barren hall, his eyes scanning for details. They landed on the stone bricks in the wall before he looked at me with a tired expression and began counting again.

His counting became a calming murmur as we shuffled along quickly, going down into the basement of this building. So far, we hadn’t run across any more vampires but I was concerned. Once they realized Abigail wasn’t coming back, they might be able to follow the trail to us.

When we finally made it to the safe room I relaxed, locking us in before turning around to face Sebastian. He was murmuring numbers still, his eyes on my throat. It wasn’t stones he had been counting, but my heartbeat I realized. Sebastian smiled as he saw comprehension settle over me. My gaze got lost in the expression for a moment before I pulled my attention away.

I swept past Sebastian. Suddenly, my back was pressed against the wall, shoulder blades digging into the stone. His body was hard against mine, his fingers digging into my hips. Instantly, I felt hot all over, burning everywhere he touched.

“You said when we got here,” he murmured seductively.

“Not yet,” I rasped out, trying to control my reaction to him. I needed to get the situation in hand. Chaining him up would offer a less risky way to feed him. He was a freshly made vampire, known for their terrible control and insatiable hunger. If I had any hope of surviving his thirst, he needed to be bound in some way.

“You promised me that when we got here I could drink,” he said, his breath fanning my neck. The cold metal of his muzzle’s cage dragged under my jaw. “Be a good partner,” he murmured and I sucked in a breath. “You decided to let me turn. Now it’s time to feed me.” His hips pushed forward and I felt his cock against my hip.

“Hold on a second,” I ground out.
