“Move your finger faster, Dove,” I order.

She does as I say, rubbing herself in quick, tight circles.

“You need to get there, Sarah, ‘cause I’m gonna blow.” My voice is rough and demanding.

She shatters at my words, her orgasm crashing over her, her body clamping down around me as she moans my name. I follow her over the edge with a harsh groan, my hips stuttering as I spill into her, my cock pulsing deep inside her as I come.

We collapse together, our bodies still trembling with aftershocks.

As we calm, I press a soft kiss to her shoulder, my fingers tracing lazy patterns on her skin. “Never gonna get enough of you.” My voice is thick with satisfaction.

She looks over her shoulder, but before she can say a word, the thunder of little feet rattles down the hall.

“Daddy!” Evie yells, and then she’s bursting into the room with Bandit hot on her heels.

Sarah startles, pulling the quilt up, just as Evie launches herself onto the bed, grinning ear to ear. Bandit leaps up after her, tail whipping like a lasso.

“Dr. K!” Evie squeals, throwing her arms around Sarah. “You slept here?!”

Sarah grimaces, but nods.

“With Daddy?” she asks innocently as she hugs me and kisses my cheek.

Sarah looks just about ready to combust; she’s blushing so hard. “Yeah,” she whispers.

Evie claps her hands, bouncing so hard the mattress shakes. “Bobby’s parents also sleep in the same bed. So, we’re a family now.”

I damn near choke on my own breath. Sarah’s eyes go wide, and she bites her lip, like she doesn’t know what to say, but Evie just sits between us, perfectly happy.

Then Tillie appears in the doorway, hands on her hips. “Joy just dropped her off. I told her to wait, but—” She smiles slowly like she won a bet.

Sarah is gripping the duvet like her life depends on it; it’s down to my waist, and there’s no denying that we’re probably, most likely, both naked beneath it. “Well, would you look at that. About damn time.”

Behind her, Dodge leans on the doorframe, grinning like a fox. “Never thought I’d see it. Cade Mercer finally pulled his head outta his ass.”

“Iseveryonehere?” Sarah hisses, horrified.

“Nah, just Tillie and me.” Dodge gives usa slow appraisal. “But I can invite the other hands. They’ve been takin’ bets, ya know. I think Vernie won the pot.”

Sarah hides her face in Evie’s hair, and Bandit barks like he’s in on the joke.

“Shut up, Dodge.” I flip him off.

“Relax, boss. I’m happy for ya. Maybe now you’ll stop being so ornery. You know, like a bull in?—”

Tillie swats him on the arm and drags him away. “Leave him be. Man’s in love.”

Sarah’s cheeks pinken at that, but she doesn’t let go of my daughter. And I don’t let go of her.

My house feels…like a home. My girl, my Dove, my kid, even the damn dog, all tangled together in my bed.

I don’t know what I did to deserve this second chance, but I’ll spend the rest of my life proving I do.

CHAPTER 40

The story breaks a week later. It’s as if my interview was the last piece in Marnie’s puzzle.
