“Because it’s one of the places the club owns, so it’s free. It’s close to Hatch’s shop, close to the club, and I don’t need much. I’m either crashing there or at the compound, so it made sense to rent it out and have someone else pay my mortgage. It means I save pretty much everything I make.”

“Then, we will definitely need a prenup, because you have way more than I have.”

“You can have it all, I don’t give a fuck.”

“Gio.” Her hands slid through my hair at the nape of my neck. “I’m not marrying you for your money.”

I grinned. “But youaremarrying me.”

“I see what you just did there, big man.”

I chuckled. “Right, change of plans. We’re gonna eat real quick, then we’re gonna head down to Rondan’s and buy you a ring.”

“Rondan’s?”

“He’s the go-to jeweler for the club.”

She glanced at the clock on the stove. “Honey, it’s almost six.”

“I don’t think they close until nine, I’ll call him.”

“Wait,” she said, pulling away from me. “Are we really doing this?”

“Yeah, we’re really doing this.” I took her hand. “Do you love me?”

“With all of my heart and vagina.”

I laughed. “Then let’s get married. We’ll start with the engagement and see how you feel.”

“Are you sure?” she rasped.

“Baby, you’ve lost everyone, I lost my dad, when you find your soulmate, you don’t waste time asking if you’re sure. You fuckin’ take life by the balls and ride it until you suck the marrow out of the bone.”

“That was a lot of metaphors there,” she said with a chuckle.

I slid my phone out and grinned. “Is the chili ready?”

“It will be in thirty minutes.”

“Turn it off. Let’s go get that ring now.”

In the end, we chose a three-carat, cushion cut halo diamond set in rose gold, that looked perfect on her, despite her protests about buying such a large diamond.

She was worth it.

Sunday afternoon, I was back in my closet having yet another crisis of faith, so to speak.

“Fizzy?”

“In here!” I called.

He leaned against the doorframe and crossed his arms. “What are you doing?”

“I’m trying to figure out what to wear.”
