Cash frowned. “She’s not going to kill us.”
“She will. I’ve been keeping this secret for months. You’re her big brother. I’m her best friend. I should have told her the second I caught feelings for you.” I groaned. “I feel like I’m having to choose.”
“You don’t have to choose.”
I flopped deeper into the booth. “Feels like it.”
“Don’t borrow trouble.”
“Easy for you to say. Regardless of what happens, you won’t lose either of us. I have the potential to lose one or both of you.”
“You’re not losing either of us, baby, sure as hell not me.”
I nodded but wasn’t convinced.
Daisy and Huck arrived about twenty minutes later and Daisy pulled me into a bear hug that was uncharacteristic for my best friend. She was a hugger, but not ahugger.
“I have been worried sick,” she admonished.
“Hi Pot, I’m Kettle,” I sassed.
“Okay, well, you may have a point,” she said as she hugged Cash.
Huck smiled and gave me a quick hug as well, then we shifted places in the booth, so Huck and Daisy were next to each other, and Cash and I were across from them.
“What are you doing here?” Daisy asked. “You didn’t need to come, you know.”
“Um, well…”
“Spit it out, Turtle,” Cash said.
“Maybe you could help me out a little,” I hissed.
Daisy’s eyes widened. “What’s going on?”
I sighed. “There’s something I need… ah,weneed to tell you and I’m scared to death.”
“You? You’re afraid of nothing,” Daisy argued. “What are you talking about?”
“We’re together.”
Daisy smiled. “I see that.”
“No, honey, we’retogether. Like, together. We’re in love.”
Her eyes darted between us and then she frowned. “You’re in love with my brother?”
“Yes.”
“Cash?”
“Yes,” I confirmed.
“Cash Warren Carver.” She pointed at Cash. “ThatCash. Evil personified. Your words, by the way, T.”
Cash chuckled beside me.
“Okay, I said that once,” I said, glancing at him. “And in my defense, you were being extra dicky.”
