“I think we’regood. I have a feeling she needs a little quiet.”
I nodded. “I’min, then.”
“Great.” Hestood, gathering our garbage. “I’ll let you get back to it.”
“Thanks, honey.”
With one lastkiss, he left me to finish up.

At about one, Iwas in serious need for a sugar bump, so I headed downstairs to see if I couldfind one.
I arrived tofind Louisa in the kitchen alone. She was scribbling on a notepad, but put the pendown when I walked in. “Hey, honey.”
“Hey, Lou,” Isaid, hugging her. “How are you doing?”
“I’m good. Areyou done with work?”
“Not quite. Ineed a sugar bump.”
“Oh, cookies andsome chocolatey things are here.” She pulled open the pantry and showed me acouple of options.
I opted for theOreos and leaned against the island as I opened the packet. “What are youworking on?”
“A grocery list.My parents haven’t shopped in at least a week, so I figured I’d make a quickrun.”
“Need help?”
She sighed. “Aren’tyou busy?”
I shrugged. “Icould take a break. I’m building a website, and my eyes are starting to cross.Where’s Huck?”
“He ran out tograb Dad’s prescription. He’ll be back soon. Do you want to wait for him?”
“No, I’ll texthim on the way.”
“Okay, perfect.Let’s go.”
“I’ll grab mybag.” I headed up to Huck’s room and threw on some shoes and a jacket, grabbingmy bag, then following Louisa out to the garage.

I had just walkedout of the pharmacy when my phone buzzed. It was a text from Daisy letting meknow she was with my sister at the store. I had my grandpa’s old truck, sowithout Bluetooth, I had to sit in the cab to text her back.
Daisy:Be back in an hour or so.
Me:Where are you? I’ll meetyou.
Daisy:Can I just have some alonetime with your sister?
Me:Head on a swivel.
Daisy:(thumbs up emoji).
