“I always wantbacon…” He made his way to me, and slid his hand to my waist, pulling me close.“But first I need a proper greeting.”
I smiled,raising my head for a kiss.
“Hi,” he said.

“How’s yourknee? Really?” I pressed.
“Hurts like amotherfucker.”
I bit my lip.“What does the doctor say?”
“Gotta haveanother MRI before my next surgery, so I have to head back to Raleigh in twoweeks.”
“Two weeks?” Irasped.
He nodded. “Igot the call this morning.”
“So, the donutswere to butter me up?”
“I was gettingthe donuts anyway, Daisy. But do they help?”
“No,” Igrumbled.
Huck squeezedthe back of my neck as I dropped my head to his chest. “I won’t be there long.”
“Well, that’snot entirely true if you’re having surgery.”
“I’m there forthe MRI, surgery’ll come later.”
“What abouthaving the MRI here?” I said, meeting his eyes.
“What do youmean?”
“Gina.”
He cocked hishead. “Who’s Gina?”
“She’s Clutch’swife, and she’s the most amazing doctor on the planet and is close, personalfriends with the head of orthopedics at OHSU.”
Huck gave me asqueeze. “Baby, who the hell is Clutch?”
“Right, sorry.”I grimaced. “Okay, so you know who Hatch is, right?”
He nodded.
“His sister,Cricket, is married to Minus, the president of the Burning Saints, and Clutchis the VP. I can make a call to Gina who will get you in with Dr. Patel. Or atthe very least, she’ll do the MRI and send it over to Dr. Patel to read.”
He stroked mycheek. “Well, that would certainly take pressure off my leg. Not havin’ totravel.”
I blinked up athim, a little disappointed in his response. Because, yes, that would be true. But was that the only reason?
“Definitely.”
