“I’ll wait aslong as you need, honey. But I’ll make sure I have protection with me for whenyou’re ready.” He smiled. “And I’ll get tested.”

“I will too,then,” I said.

He focused onhis food with a slight smile, and I pressed my foot into his leg. “What?”

“Nothing.”

“Um, no, we’renot playing that game. What was that look for?”

“I don’t thinkyou need to get tested,” he said.

“Why not?”

“Because you’vebeen with one guy, briefly, and it’s been three years since. Pretty sure if youhad an STI, you’d know it by now.”

“Well, I’d stilllike to make sure just in case.”

“That’s fair, honey, but I’m not worried.” He smiled, squeezing my leg again.

I dropped myutensils onto my plate. “I’m not some total innocent.”

“I’m notimplying you are.”

I pulled my feetoff his lap and stood, making my way to the kitchen.

“Daisy, what thefuck just happened?” he asked, following me into the kitchen.

“It’s just thatsometimes I feel like I live in a snow globe. People look at me and assume thatbecause my dad’s the VP of a motorcycle club, then I’m like one of the clubwomen… worldly. But the truth is, I’ve been sheltered my whole life,” I said, setting my plate in the sink.

“There’s nothingwrong with that, Daisy.”

“Well, it makesme feel stupid sometimes.”

Huck frowned.“Why does it make you feel stupid?”

“I have nofucking idea.” I let out a deep sigh. “I mean, I look at Teagan and I want tobe more like her, I guess. She’s so confident and beautiful, and she knowsexactly what she wants. She walks into a room and every head turns, while Iwalk into a room and immediately look for the longest curtain to hide behind. Ifeel more comfortable behind a computer screen and with my people than I do outin the real world sometimes, and I guess that makes me a little naïve at times.Ergo, I can end up feeling stupid because I bury my head in the sand onoccasion.”

Placing one handon each side of the counter, essentially pinning me against it, he leaned downand got nose-to-nose with me and smiled. “There is nothing, and I meannothing, that makes you stupid.”

“I know that,Huck. I just sometimes forget and then I spiral.”

“Then I’ll makesure I remind you just how smart, witty, talented, capable, and beautiful youare.”

“Not sexy?” Iteased.

“Daisy, do youknow how many times a minute I have to think about hockey stats just to keep mydick soft when I’m around you?” he bit out. “Sexy’s a given.”

I blushed, unable to stop a smile. “Well, that’s nice to hear.”

“Now, you needto stop being cute or I’m gonna fuck you over your sofa.”

I shivered.“That’s not a threat, Huck.”

He smiledslowly. “Didn’t bring condoms, Daisy.”

“Why not?”

“Because we’re gonnawait a bit. Get to know each other first. I want to make sure you feel totallycomfortable and safe.”
