“But, why?” Icried. “If I know he’s going to die in there, how could I possibly—”

Haddi’s tonesharpened. “Know? What do you suppose you know? You know nothing. You’ve merelyhad a vision. A vision that, so far, you’ve lacked the courage to face. Takeheed, my pupil. Obey the will of the Fates or pay the price. The choice isyours. Take the jump with your mate, and risk losing him, or stay trapped hereand lose everything.”

I dropped myhead in defeat and began my incantation once more. This time focusing on thespot where I’d left Phin.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Phineas

SECONDSLATER, LENNOX materialized in front of me, wreathed in smoke.

“Where did yougo?” I asked.

Lennox shook herhead. “I’ll tell you about it later. We have to go.”

She pulled me toher, kissing me desperately.

“Are you okay?”I asked.

She looked at meworriedly. “Promise me you’ll be careful.”

“Always, love.I’ll keep both of us safe. I promise.”

“Phin, I’ve hadvisions of what happens inside there,” Lennox said, motioning toward the house.

I smiled gently.“I figured as much.”

“You did?”

I nodded.“But…?”

“But I’velearned that visions aren’t events set in stone, and I refuse to let Gavin Traskwin. So, we’re going to make this jump together, face him together, and we’regoing to kick his ass. And God damn the Fates to hell if they get in my way.”

“There’s my love.”I took her hands and once again she prepared for the jump. Moments later, we’dfinally reached our destination.

The safe room ofGavin Trask.

If the firstjump scrambled my brain a little, this one fried it. My vision was doubled anddim, and I felt I like was on the bow of a boat during rough seas, strugglingand failing to keep my balance.

“Phin!” Lennoxscreamed as I hit the floor.

“How the helldid you get in here?”

I heard GavinTrask’s voice and quickly scrambled to my unsteady feet.

“Die, freak!” Iheard him yell, followed by Lennox screaming.

I heard a singlegunshot, followed by a warm feeling in my chest. Once again, I found myself onthe floor, the warm sensation now spreading and growing hotter. As heat gaveway to burning, I realized the bullet I’d been shot with was laced with RedFang.

“Lennox,” Igasped before passing out.

“Don’t move or you’re next,”Trask said, pointing the gun at me.

“Let me helphim,” I pleaded.
