No sooner had Ispoken than she was gone. Only smoke and the familiar smell of toffee applesleft in her place. Now came the hard part. Could she make it back withoutissue?
I got my answerwhen she reappeared less than thirty seconds later.
“Oh, my gosh! Ican’t believe I did it!” she said, excitedly.
“Well done, love,” I said, kissing her. “How did it feel?”
“Fine. I was alittle dizzy and out of breath when I got there, but I arrived in exactly thespot I was thinking of. I was nervous I wouldn’t be able to make it backwithout you, but I calmed myself and bam, I was here again.”
“You wanna tryagain?”
Lennox noddedher head enthusiastically.
“Okay, this timeI want you to focus on the tree stump by the blackberry bushes.”
Lennox and Itested the range and accuracy of her ‘jumps’ as we began to call them, forabout an hour before I called time on the day’s training.
“Can I do justone more?” she asked, grabbing me around the waist. “Please?”
“I don’t want toput you through too much before we know more about your gift. Every ability hasits price and before we know what your ability will cost, we should becareful.”
She pulled medown for a kiss. “One more?”
“Okay,” Irelented. “Just one.”
“I promise,” shesaid, holding up three fingers.
“What’s that?”
“It’s the GirlScout salute.”
I scowled.“Concentrate, love. This is no time to lose focus.”
Lennox nodded, putting on her serious face.
“Where are yougoing?” I asked.
“The couchinside the cabin.” She waggled her eyebrows. “Where I will promptly get nakedand wait for you.”
“Jesus, woman, are you seriously saying that right now?”
She grinned.“No?”
“Minx,” Iadmonished, giving her arse a smack. “Okay, concentrate and go there.”
Once again,Lennox was gone, but rather than returning ten or twenty seconds later as shehad been, two minutes passed, and she still had yet to jump back to me. I wasabout to head toward the cabin, when she suddenly returned to our spot, soakingwet and scowling.
“Och, love. Whathappened to you?” I asked, unable to stifle my laughter.
“I was in theriver,” she said.
“What?”
“Somehow Ijumped to the River Ness!”
“How in theworld did that happen?”
“I’m not sure, but I think when I mentioned the Girl Scouts, it got me thinking about youteaching me to fish, so I thought of the river, and then I was in the river.”
