I wrinkled my nose. “It’s never going to happen. Not on the road, at least. Maybe if we find a field or trail somewhere and you go ten miles an hour.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” He chuckled.

“I wish you could find a way to put a bike on like a carousel. You know, like those kid rides? So that you’re nowhere near cars and asphalt that could kill you.”

“I have an idea...” He raised an eyebrow. “Feel like taking a drive?”

“Sure,” I said. “Where?”

“Dad’s shop.”

“Why,” I asked in a sing-song voice.

He chuckled, pulling out of the parking lot without answering my question.

“You’re not going to make me get on a bike, right?”

He sighed. “Baby, I wouldnevermake you do something you don’t want to do.”

“No, I know,” I breathed out, but found myself relaxing at his words.

He reached over and linked his fingers with mine, giving them a gentle squeeze which relaxed me further.

Pulling around the locked back of his dad’s shop, Flash parked the truck, then came around my side of lift me down.

“I’m just gonna text Dad and give him a heads-up I’m here, so he doesn’t think someone’s breaking in,” he said, pulling out his phone.

Once he was done, he entered the code at the back door, and I followed him inside. He flipped lights on as we walked, and I dropped my purse in the office.

“Why are we here?” I asked.

“I want to show you the bike.”

I smiled. “Lead the way.”

He took my hand and guided me to the main part of the shop where an old car sat next to a motorcycle that was on some kind of machine.

“It’s not a carousel, but itisa high-performance dyno machine,” Flash said. “And what it does is lock the bike down so that you can run tests on it off-road.”

I bit my lip. “That’s really cool.”

“Yeah, it is.” He wrapped an arm around me. “So, if you ever want to find out what it feels like to be on a bike without the fear of it crashing, you just let me know and we’ll throw the bike up on the dyno.”

“So you can’t crash and break your arm or a rib or go unconscious again?” I asked.

“Exactly,” he confirmed. “You can try it without either one of us getting hurt.”

“Like, now?”

“You want to try it now?”

I shrugged. “Is that okay?”

“Yeah, baby, of course it is. I’m just surprised.”

“I know, I’m sorry, I’m being wishy-washy.” I wrinkled my nose. “I’ve always been fascinated by bikes, they just scare me. Especially after you got hurt...”

“Honey, you have the right to change your mind.” He smiled. “For any reason.”
