“You always fucking win,” I grumbled.
“I’m the favorite,” she retorted, popping a piece of bacon into her mouth.
“You’re all our favorites,” Mom countered.
“Not with Dad,” Poppy said.
“Baby girl, you need to quit pokin’ the bear,” Dad warned.
Poppy grinned. “You’re no fun.”
“Well, this has been a blast,” I said, pushing away from the table. “But I have shit to do.”
“Love you Parker,” Poppy said.
I leaned down and kissed her cheek, whispering, “Love you too, asshole.”
She laughed and I took care of my dishes before hugging my mother and heading out to my bike. I had just swung my leg over when I saw Tate calling. I had a few minutes, so I answered. “Hey.”
“Hi,” she breathed out. “Are you in the middle of something?”
“Just heading to the office,” I said. “You okay?”
“Yep.”
I frowned. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s so stupid.”
“What’s stupid?” I demanded.
“I just missed you and wanted to hear your voice.”
I relaxed, smiling. “That’s not stupid, Tate. It’s sweet.”
“It’s so, fucking female.”
I laughed. “Newsflash, baby, you are female. It’s one of my favorite things about you.”
“I had really sexy dreams about you last night and it kind of annoyed me.”
“You and me both, baby.”
“I need to stop replaying those dreams,” she said. “I’m going to let you go to work and try to get some study time in.”
I chuckled. “I’ll call you when I’m done with my meeting.”
“Okay. Have a good day and be safe.”
“I will. Love you.”
“Love you, too,” she said, then hung up.
