His hand tightened around my waist as he slipped his tongue between my lips, deepening the kiss just as I heard the beep of the alarm indicating the front door opening.
I broke the kiss with a sigh and Flash smiled gently. “I’m gonna go.”
I nodded, licking my lips as I reluctantly peeled myself away from his body. We both stood and I led him to the front door.
“Oh, hello, Flash,” Mom said, kicking her shoes into the corner. “How are you?”
“I’m great, Mrs. Burke, thanks.”
He shook my dad’s hand, and I knew Dad would grill me the second Flash was gone.
“How was your date?” I asked my parents.
“It was good,” Dad said, smiling. “You still flying, Flash?”
“Yes, sir. I actually have a flight Thursday.”
“That’s great. Are you riding with your dad’s club?”
“Sure am. You should come to family night sometime,” Flash said.
Dad chuckled, glancing at me. “We haven’t done that in a while. Might be fun.”
“Well, Flash was just leaving,” I said, earning an eyebrow raise from Flash.
“Yeah, I should get going,” he confirmed, and after he said goodbye to my parents, I walked him out onto the porch.
“Call me when you get home,” I bossed.
He chuckled. “Call or text?”
“Call,” I breathed out. “I want proof of life.”
“Okay, baby,” he said, stroking my cheek.
“No kiss?” I asked.
“Camera doorbell, baby. Wanna be respectful of your parents.”
I smiled. “Make up for it Thursday?”
“You bet.”
He chuckled and I watched him get in his truck and drive away. The second I couldn’t see him anymore, I stepped back inside and locked the door behind me, turning to find my dad standing in the foyer, his arms crossed, watching me.
“What?” I asked, a little more defensively than I should have.
“I thought you hated Flash Wallace.”
I sighed. “I know. I did. But I hated him based on incorrect information.”
“What information?”
“Totally not important,” I bit out. “I was being unkind, but he cared about me enough to hash it out with me.”
“I don’t like it when you’re not happy, Tate, so you need to lead me on this.”
I wrapped my arms around his waist. “I know, Daddy, but we’re good. It’s just going to take a little time to get back to normal.” My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I pulled it out. “It’s Flash. Are we good?”
