“Fuck,” Ibreathed out, dragging my hands through my hair. I was in deep shit.
I liked Melodyand this was a problem because I didn’t have the freedom to like her. She was afuckin’ talented musician, and wholly underestimated. She was also funny, sweet, and smart. She played the role of a ditz when it served her, but I’dwatched her closely over the past week or so, and there was nothing ditzy abouther. She knew everything that was going on around her and she missednothing.
My phone buzzed, pulling me from my thoughts, and I pulled it out to see Flea calling.
“Hey, brother.”
“Hey. How’s itgoin’?” he asked.
“Loadedquestion,” I admitted.
“Vault?”
I palmed myforehead. “Yeah, man, that’d be good.”
“You fuckedher,” he guessed.
“Why the hellwould you jump to that conclusion?” I asked.
Flea laughed.“Dude, she’s hot, she’s fuckin’ talented, and you like hot and fuckin’talented.”
“Well, that’strue.”
“Which puts youup shit creek,” he reminded me. “So whatya gonna do?”
“I’m not gonnado shit. And we’re not gonna talk about it. As far as you, and anyone else isconcerned, nothin’ happened.”
“Got it.Otherwise, things good?”
“Yeah. The set’stight. Wanted to fuck up a couple of the venue managers, though.”
“How so?” heasked.
“They treat herlike some little girl who can’t think for herself. Christ, the amount ofmansplaining happening at each stop makes me want to break shit. It’s fuckin’infuriating.”
He chuckled.“How does she deal?”
“She rolls hereyes, nods, then does what the fuck she wants anyway.”
“Nice,” Fleasaid. “But I get it. Grace deals with it too.”
“Yeah, but ourwomen don’t take shit off anyone. Even Maisie holds her own in her sweet,English way. And if Hatch tried to interfere and ‘rescue’ her, she’d have hishead. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a woman have to finesse herwords, because if she didn’t, she’d lose her career,” I said. “I don’t likeit.”
“Jesus, you likethis bitch.”
I sighed. “Yeah,I like this bitch.”
“Well, go easy, brother. I know from experience what it’s like when you fall for someone youshouldn’t.”
I smiled. “Youget lucky?”
He laughed.“Hell, yeah. In the best of ways.”
“Well, I have nointention of going past the tour, but finding this woman has a soul has spun meup a bit.”
“I can tell.”
I chuckled. “Isthat why you called? To check up on me?”
