“Where are we?” I asked Bonnie.
She was now sitting up against the wall, her bleeding under control, but missing one of her front teeth. “Warehouse on Lathrop and Butler.”
It was the weekend, so not a lot of traffic, which meant no one would hear us scream. Although, there were no windows in this room, so I doubted anyone would hear us scream regardless.
“Is there anything sharp in this room?” I asked.
“There’s a piece of metal sticking out of the pole over there, but other than that, no,” she said. “I tried to get the restraints off, but I couldn’t get the leverage to saw at them.”
I studied the pole, found the metal, and turned my back to it. “How long did you try?”
She shrugged.
“Let me guess. Two-point-five seconds?” I sneered.
I thought about pointing out what a lazy bitch she was, but I held back, figuring I’d just be adding insult to injury.
I hooked the zip-tie under the metal and yanked up. I could feel it give a little, but it wasn’t breaking easily. I tried again and it gave a little more, so I gave it one more tug and it gave way enough for me to pull my right hand out. I turned my back on Bonnie, activated my GPS, then turned to face her again. “Any ideas on how to get out of here?”

It had been silentfor several minutes, so I took a chance and opened my eyes slightly. I was alone in a room with one transom window that let very little light inside. But it was enough to see the damage to my arm. A bullet had taken a huge chunk out of the muscle, but I didn’t feel metal still inside, which meant it was a through-and-through. It had also stopped bleeding. This was a good thing, but it still hurt like a mother.
They’d taken my gun, my phone, and my switchblade, but my boots were still on my feet, so I hoped they might have left my hidden blades. I reached into both boots and sighed. They were gone.
Fuck.
The Spiders weren’t stupid. Fuckin’ reckless, yes, but stupid, no.
I rubbed the back of my neck and tried to think.
Jesus, if they hurt Olivia or the babies, I was gonna fuckin’ kill Sugar. I didn’t much care about the consequences.

“Will you help me withmy ties?” Bonnie asked.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t trust you,” I said, walking the perimeter of the room, trying to find a way out. There wasn’t one. It was locked up tight, and I was beginning to lose hope.
“I’m not going to do anything.”
“Bonnie, you’ve done nothing but try to fuck with my life, so forgive me if I don’t believe a goddamn word you say.”
“Liv—”
She didn’t finish her bullshit plea, as the door was slammed open and she let out a scream. I dropped to the ground and folded myself over my belly to protect my babies. I was hauled to my feet and I came at the person swinging. Kicking as hard as I could.
“Jesus, Liv, it’s me,” Doom said. “I got you.”
