Doom stalked back to the bed, reaching for me, gently grabbing my legs, and tugging me down the mattress. I let out a quiet squeal as he leaned over me and cupped my chin. “Let’s get something straight right now. It doesn’t matter how pissed we are at one another, we sleep together. I don’t believe in the old adage don’t go to bed mad, because sometimes you just need to sleep in order to get a clear head, but you and I’ll never sleep apart. Understand?”
I wrinkled my nose, because I didn’t really want to sleep with him. I mean, I did. But not until he apologized and groveled a little.
Although, Icouldaccidentally push him out of bed—
“Lyric?”
“It’s your funeral,” I grumbled.
“Did you eat?”
“Hello? Locked in our room?” I snapped.
“Baby, I left you a sandwich in the fridge.”
“Baby, I’m growing our baby in my belly, so I’ve been asleep. I didn’t know you left me a sandwich in the fridge.”
He switched the nightstand lamp on, stalked to the mini fridge, and pulled out the sandwich he’d obviously put there while I was asleep. He also handed me a Sprite.
I sat up against the headboard and took a bite of the sandwich and swallowed. “Are you going to apologize now?”
“Why the fuck would you take it upon yourself to start a war with the Spiders’ old ladies?”
“Apparently not.”
“Lyric.”
I huffed. “We weren’t trying to start a war. We were trying to end a war that you men just seem to keep escalating.”
“What makes you think these women are any less dangerous than their old men? They’re seasoned criminals as much as the bikers they ride with.”
I shrugged. “Well, someone had to do something.”
“Did you ever stop to think that while you were busy assembling your little mock UN, you could have just as easily started a cat fight in the middle of our dog fight?”
“But we didn’t.” I glanced around the room. “As you can see, I’m here, perfectly safe, as are the rest of the women.”
“That’s not the point. I didn’t know where you were and could only assume the worst. And what makes the whole thing unbearable is that you were actually in a dangerous place. It makes my blood boil that you would even put yourself and the baby in harm’s way like that.”
I sighed. “I’m sorry that I worried you, but Tammy and I came up with a deal, so all you have to do is worry about the club. Families are off-limits.”
Doom cocked his head. “Do I want to know?”
“She has to come through first, so maybe let’s wait and see if that happens.”
“Woman, what have you done?”
“I told her that if she convinced her man to get the heat off of us, meaning women and kids, and my fucking house, I’d represent her brother, who’s currently sitting in county awaiting trial.”
“Jesus fucking Christ!” he bellowed, stalking out the door, and slamming it behind him.
“That went well,” I told Booger, who was peeking out from his cat tower.
“Meow.”
“Thanks for having my back, Booger. I appreciate it.”
“Meow.”
