“Darling, is that you?”

I recognized Maisie’s sweet, British voice calling from the kitchen. I’d met her the few times she’d accompanied Hatch to visit Savannah.

“Yeah, Sunshine.”

She walked out of the kitchen and smiled. “Hi, Doom.”

“Hey, Maisie.”

She opened her arms.

“I stink like plane,” I warned.

“I don’t care,” she said, wrapping me in a hug. “How are you, love?”

“I’m good, thanks.”

Hatch grabbed a key from a drawer and handed it to me. “Top of the stairs, second door on the right.”

“Thanks, brother.”

“There’s fresh bread and lunch meat, so if you’d like a sandwich, let me know and I’ll be happy to make you something,” Maisie offered.

“Thanks, Maisie, I’m good,” I said. “I’m gonna go take a shower.”

“Okay, love.”

I headed upstairs and closed myself in the room, pulling out my cell phone and calling Lyric. It went to voicemail.

“Angel, will you call me when you get this? Just want to make sure you’re okay.”

Lyric

“Angel, will you call me when you get this? Just want to make sure you’re okay.”

“I think you’ve lost your ever-blessed mind,” I whispered out loud.

Angel?

Um, no.

Will you call me when you get this?

Again, no.

I grabbed my bag and joined my family in the kitchen where we were communing before heading up to the Dogs of Fire club for a family night. I, for one, was looking forward to good food and loud music. I needed a distraction.

“Okay, family, in the car,” Harmony directed, and the kids made a run for the garage.

“They’re almost as excited as I am,” I said with a laugh.

“Oh my god, they love family nights. And I love that I can drink whatever I want and Jaxon is the designated driver.”

“Well, tonight I can do that if he wants to drink.”

She grinned. “That’s true, huh?”
