The nurse was quick on the draw and handed me a plastic bag attached to a round carboard thingy. I aimed the best I could, puking into the small opening.

As I answered the questions Jaxon asked while filling out admittance paperwork, we waited in the emergency area until I was called down to radiology.

“Baby, don’t fall asleep.”

“I’m so tired.”

“I know. We need to get you checked out first.”

“Harmony?” a nurse called from the doorway behind me.

Jaxon stood and wheeled me toward her, following her down the hallway and into another waiting area.

“A tech will be in shortly,” she said, and left us alone.

I reached for Jaxon and squeezed his hand as a sharp pain shot through my ankle. “I need morphine.”

“We’ll get you—”

A man in blue scrubs walked in and stalled. “I’m Kevin and I’ll be taking your images today. You’re in a lot of pain, huh?” he asked.

“She needs something,” Jaxon demanded.

“Let’s get your scans done and we’ll get you a room so the doc can get you sorted.” He gave me a gentle smile. “I’m fast, Miss Morgan. I promise this won’t take long.”

“Come with me,” I begged Jaxon.

“Yeah, baby, I’m right behind you.”

True to his word, Kevin was quick. My ankle was x-rayed, then my head was CAT scanned, and I was in a room with in fifteen minutes. A doctor came in five minutes later and I was dosed with morphine and all was better with the world.

I couldn’t have too much in the way of pain meds because of the concussion, but it was certainly enough to take the edge off the pain in my ankle...and make me very emotional.

“I can’t believe you found me,” I sobbed as Jaxon pushed out of the chair he was in and slid onto the bed next to me, pulling me gently against his chest.

“I can’t believe you doubted me.”

“I didn’t doubt that you’d try, but Butchy disabled all the GPS and tracker stuff on the SUV, so I didn’t know if you’d be able to do it.”

He stroked my cheek. “I will always find you, Rufus. Never ever forget that.”

“I won’t.” I burrowed into his chest. “I love you so much, Jaxon, I thought I’d never see you again.”

“You can’t get rid of me that easily.”

I met his eyes and smiled through my tears. “You realize you’re stuck with me now. I’ll never let you go.”

He chuckled. “I’m countin’ on that, baby.”

“Like, no break up, no divorce. Just death. If you try to leave me... not a hair, not a fiber.”

“Oh, yeah?”

“Yeah, my man’s a badass FBI man, I’m gonna learn all I need to know about how to bury a body if I need to.”

He laughed. “Jesus, Rufus, you’re diabolical on morphine.”

I snuggled back against him. “And don’t you forget it.”
