“By you, I believe,” Jaxon said, nodding toward Kim. “Kim, not so much.”

“Hey. I resemble that remark.”

Knight wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed the back of her neck. “The nineties called, they want their joke back.” He reached in front of her and held his hand out. “I’m Knight.”

I shook his hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Ace was next, and then he took Cassidy to sit across from me and Jaxon. My sister still hadn’t arrived, but that didn’t surprise me. I figured she’d make a grand entrance once everyone else arrived.

Mack and Darien walked in just before Brock and a blonde woman who could be the long lost Morgan sister. The couple was followed by Dallas and a stunning redhead who laughed at something he said, even though he appeared somewhat stone-faced.

I leaned closer to Jaxon. “Everything okay with Dallas?”

“Probably not.”

“Really?”

“He can get a little wound up,” Jaxon explained. “Especially, when it comes to Macey. He doesn’t like not knowing every escape route available to him when he’s with her.”

“Uh oh.”

“Put it out of your mind, Rufus. He’ll get over it. Macey’ll sort him out.”

I squeezed his knee and smiled. “I appreciate how even keeled you are.”

He chuckled. “We’re still in the honeymoon stage, baby. You’ll probably change your mind on that one.”

He stood and took my hand, pulling me up and leading me to where Dallas and Brock were. I was introduced to Bailey and Macey, and then Jaxon wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me against him.

“Everything good?” he asked Dallas.

“Dallas has his period,” Macey said, and I bit back a laugh.

“Jesus Christ, Macey,” he growled.

“Or...we can get a drink and enjoy a rare night together,” she countered, sliding her hand into Dallas’s back pocket. “Sound good?”

He studied her for a few seconds, then nodded.

She beamed up at him. “There’s my man.”

“Everyone’s here!” Melody said in a singsong voice, and any and all conversation was shut down while she played court. Butchy hovered, along with two of his team, and I smiled at him over the small crowd.

There was another man close to Lyric who I deduced was Matt, particularly when all the brothers hugged and ribbed each other for a good ten minutes or so. Once Jaxon introduced me to him, we took our seats again and everyone entered into a surprisingly relaxed evening.

“You got a minute?”Matt asked me.

“Yeah,” I said, and squeezed the back of Harmony’s neck. “Be right back.”

She nodded and went back to her conversation with Lyric. I followed Matt away from the table and by the front door. “What’s up?”

“Something’s off,” he said.

“With?”
