“It was a slip of the tongue,” I explained.

“Say it for real.”

I raised an eyebrow. “You say it first.”

He smiled slowly. “I love you.”

“Shut up,” I said with a snort. “No you don’t.”

“Yeah, I do.”

“You do not.”

“Say it,” he pressed.

“I want to mean it.”

“Youdomean it,” he said.

“I do?”

He kissed me gently. “Yeah, baby, you mean it. You just gotta trust me enough to say it.”

“Why are you saying it so soon?”

“Because I feel it.”

“Feelings shouldn’t always be trusted.”

He ran his thumb over my lower lip. “I always trust mine.”

“You do?”

He nodded, kissing me again. “It’s why I’m good at my job.”

“This was just supposed to be a short farming exercise,” I grumbled.

“Jesus Christ,” he bit out on a laugh. “This.”

“This?”

“This is the reason I fell in love with you.”

“Because I’m interested in farming?”

“Yes,” he deadpanned.

“Jax, this is too fast.”

“Who says?”

“Oh, I don’t know...common sense?”

He grinned again. “Fuck common sense. I love you. But more importantly, I like you. You make me feel like I’ve found home.”

“Oh, my god, stop being so sweet.”

“I’m gonna give you some time to mull this over. You hungry? I’m hungry. I vote finding somewhere in the Pearl tonight.” He slid off the bed and headed toward the bathroom.
