“We still haven’t had ‘the talk,’” I pointed out.
He sighed and slid off the bed.
“Where are you going?”
“We’re not doing it here,” he said, pulling on his boxer briefs. “We’ll talk in the living room. Panties only.”
I chuckled. “Kinky but okay.”
I snagged my panties off the floor and shimmied them on, then followed him out to the living room. He pulled me onto his lap in his overstuffed recliner. “Six women, none of them were love matches, they all lasted less than six months, except one. She and I were in a ‘thing’ for almost two years, but she had some ulterior motives, so I cut ties.”
“What kind of ulterior motives?”
“She had a brother in jail and thought if she sucked me off enough, I’d hide evidence before his trial.”
I wrinkled my nose. “Oh, my god, that’s awful. Were you hurt?”
“Honestly? No.” He stroked my cheek. “Full disclosure, if you pulled something like that, I’d be hurt, Harmony.”
That both surprised me and made me feel all mushy inside. “You would?”
“Yeah, baby, I would.”
“Wow,” I whispered. “I would never do that to you.”
He grinned. “I know.”
I licked my lips. “I’ve had sex with two men...well, three now, but one in high school, it was awful, and then with the last guy I dated. I broke up with him over two years ago. Mostly because I found out he was way into my sister and wanted me to pretend to be her in bed.”
“No shit?”
“No shit,” I said.
“Did that hurt?”
“Yeah, Jax, it hurt,” I admitted. “But not because I loved him. I have always believed myself to be a really good judge of character and he got through. I was more pissed at myself, if that makes sense.”
“Yeah, Rufus, that makes sense.”
“It’s different with you,” I said. “I trust you like I’ve never trusted anyone and for some reason, that doesn’t scare me. It should. But it doesn’t.”
“I will never betray you.”
I kissed him quickly. “I believe you.”
He smiled. “You want more ice cream?”
I shook my head. “I want a popsicle.”
“I don’t have any popsicles.”
I slid my hand under the waistband of his boxer briefs. “Yes, you do.”
He chuckled and carried me back to the bedroom.
