Idrove the ATV back to Patrick and Wendy’s, parking it back in the workshop, then heading to the house. I let myself in the back, and called out, “Anyone home?”

“In the kitchen,” Mia called.

“You still here alone?” I asked, a little irritated that she’d left the back door unlocked.

“Yeah, why?”

“Back door was unlocked.”

“No it wasn’t,” she countered, crossing her arms. “Shit. Do you think...?”

“Where did you find Pumpkin?”

She shuddered. “Front porch.”

“Did the cameras pick anything up?”

“Only someone in a hoodie dropping her body there.”

“Nothing from the back?” I asked.

Mia rubbed her arms and shook her head. “No.”

“Did you lock it after we left?” I asked.

She bit her lip and sighed. “It’s possible I didn’t.”

“Well, it’s locked now. I’m going to go and take some pictures and see what I can figure out.”

“Okay, bud, thanks.”

I headed out onto the front porch and called Brock. “Hey.”

“Hey,” I said. “The Dennis’s cat was mutilated. Decapitated.”

“Shit, seriously?”

“Yeah, right after the paparazzi showed up at their house, a tip off that Melody was here.” I scanned the area, but saw nothing.
