“Yes.” He squeezed my hand. “And she will continue to be. Trust me.”
“Will you take me back to that diner for a shake?”
“Yeah, tonight if you want.”
“And a burger?”
He nodded. “You can even have friesandtots.”
“Oh, wow. Friesandtots? That’s so generous.”
“I’m a giver.”
“Yeah, you are,” I deadpanned.
He laughed again, climbing out of the SUV and walking to my side, helping me down. He walked me to the door and kissed me gently. “Pick you up at six.”
“Okay.”
“Pack a bag and we’ll stay in the barn.”
“You’re so romantic.”
He nodded. “If you’re lucky, I’ll find one of Aidan’s old whips. I’ll show you romance like you’ve never seen.”
I snorted on a laugh. “Just don’t replace the bed with bales of hay.”
“I can do that.” He stroked my cheek. “Six.”
“Okay.”
I let myself in and locked the door behind me not sure if I was more excited by the sex, or the fries and tots.

Jaxon
Ileft Harmony at theDennis home, then headed back to my parents’, calling Brock on the way.
“Hey, brother,” Brock said.
“Hey. What did you find?”
“Nothing.”
“At all?”
“Exactly,” he said.
“Which indicates Melody isn’t the target,” I deduced. “Or, the person could be using Harmony’s absence to make us think that.”
Brock sighed. “Yeah. I’m not liking this.”
“Me neither.”
“Matt wants you to stay put for the moment.”
My phone buzzed and I glanced at the screen. “That’s him calling now.”
