Purge furrows his brow. “Something scared them. I also hacked into their phone records and saw that the last one to speak to one of us was Ghost’s father, a while ago. Ghost called him.”

“Hold up. Ghost called his old man? That is not like him,” I say in confusion.

Purge types fast on his phone. “I just texted him to get in here and explain.”

It's maybe a minute or two when Ghost rushes into the room, breathing heavily. His shirt is rumpled, and he has the look on his face he gets after doing something violent.

“Aw, shit, Ghost. You didn’t kill him, did you?” Purge asks.

“No.” Ghost grinds his teeth. “Maxim is still alive.”

I exhale in relief. We still need answers. “Why did you call your father?”

Ghost winces, then explains himself.

“Fuck, man. You actually scared him,” I say, impressed despite the incredibly poor decision he made.

“Yeah, but they took our mothers,” Purge points out.

“There’s nothing you can do now. I suggest making the most of your limited freedom while you can.”

My head whips around at hearing Jax’s voice. I didn’t even hear him walk in.

“What are you saying? Are we free to come and go?” Purge asks slowly, hope lighting up his eyes.

“Yes, though I stress the need for constant security, and caution on your part,” Jax adds.

Purge quickly stands, and the two of us nod at Jax on our way out. We both head to Pazessca’s room, Ghost trailing behind us.

“She’s with 3,” Ghost says softly.

“So that’s what set you off,” I mutter. “We’ll wait, no matter how long they're holed up in there.”

Purge is on his phone again. My phone chirps, and I check the screen. He sent a message in the group chat for everyone to meet us at Pazessca’s room.

“They all need to know. I texted Harris and Valley too,” Purge tells us.

“Good,” I grunt.

I plant my feet, waiting on my girl.

Trikk

God, what now?

I was just about to beat this fucking game, too. Frustrated, I get up and toss the controller off to the side.

I aim for Bambi’s room. I see the others coming also. Everyone—including Valley, Bryan, and Cynthia.

What the hell is going on?

We meet up with Ghost, Synn, and Purge, waiting on an explanation.

Purge quickly fills us in. My jaw drops. It would take a good amount of fear for all our fathers to go into hiding.

“Wait... we’re free to leave and come back? We can take Bambi with us?” I clarify.

“Yep,” Synn says. “But you better be careful, Trikk. We cannot have another incident like before.”
