She ran to him and checked for a pulse, found it strong and steady. He was still alive.
“Ryan, help me get him down.”
“Lana?”
Jayson’s cracked voice sounded like music to her ears. He was alive and to her that was everything.
CHAPTER
SIXTY-FIVE
Miraculously, Jayson hadn’t been hit by the gunfire when the men had run him off the road, when he had the kids in the back seat. Most of his cuts and bruises were from the glass of the windshield when it had shattered from the gunfire or the torture he’d endured when he’d been held hostage by Rusty.
Turns out Rusty had been interrogating him to find out what exactly they all knew about his parents and their dealings. He’d been getting pissed because Jayson wouldn’t break.
When they’d gotten home, Lana took Jayson straight to the bathroom and made him get into the shower before he went and saw the kids. She didn’t want them seeing him all bloody and bruised like he was.
“Hey baby, you good?”
“Yeah, Jayson, I’m good. I’m just so happy that you’re home.”
Lana couldn’t hide the tears that had been streaming down her face. She wanted to touch Jayson and hold him so badly it hurt.
“Hey baby, come help me in the shower. Let me hold you for a bit. I can wait and see the kids in the morning. Right now, I want to feel you in my arms.”
Lana went to Jayson and wrapped her arms around his waist, standing on her tiptoes and kissing his lips. The bedroom door had barely shut before Jayson’s shirt was off, and Lana fumbled with her buttons.
“Here, let me help you with that,” Jayson murmured between their frenzied kisses.
They stumbled together through the bedroom, a small yelp releasing from Lana’s lips as the back of her knees hit the bed. Jayson grinned beneath their kiss, wrapping his arms around her waist as they tumbled together on the sheets.
She’d never wanted Jayson so badly, desire already pooling in her panties. But something was holding her back, something that had her pause as she ran her fingers down Jayson’s back.
“Jayson,” she whispered.
“Yes, baby, say my name again. Say it over and over while you come for me,” he growled, his hands working their way between them as he unzipped her pants.
Her fingers clamped down on his, stopping his movements. He looked up, breaking the kiss with his eyes still hooded, but immediately blinked as he saw tears springing from Lana’s eyes.
“Baby…” He took his hand, swiping a thumb on her cheek to wipe away the tears.
“I don’t deserve this, Jayson. It’s my fault you and the kids were put in danger. If it weren’t for me, none of this would have happened,” she managed to choke out, her words breathless.
He shook his head, letting in a sharp break through his teeth. “Don’t say that, Lana. You know you’re my everything. You’re my wife. My universe. Without you, I’m nothing.”
With one hand, he stroked her cheek, the other going between their bodies, tiptoeing just at the waistband of her jeans. She sucked in a deep breath, her eyes still locked on Jayson’s.
As much as he wanted to feel her come on his fingers, he knew she was still holding back. That he had to let her know everything he was feeling.
“I would do anything for you and our children. I need you to know that,” he murmured, hooking his finger in the waistband of her jeans and pulling them down.
She arched her back, her gaze never leaving his, even as he slipped her pants and underwear off, leaving her bare for him. But Jayson didn’t go straight where she wanted him; instead, he let his fingers dance around the edges of her bare pussy, stroking her thighs with deft fingers as he smiled down at her.
“I love you, Lana, every part of you.”
The tears now strained against her eyes, and Jayson’s eyes widened, pulling his hand back. Shit, did he just hurt her without realizing it?
She sensed his tension, shaking her head and wiping away her tears. “I love you, too, Jayson. So fucking much it hurts sometimes. I was so fucking scared that I had lost you for good this time.”
