Lana heard the uncertainty in his voice, and it nearly broke her heart. She couldn’t answer him honestly at this point in time about the team’s plans.
“Mommy! Daddy!” Dani jumped up and yelled out as she saw her parents standing there.
“About time you two lovebirds emerged from your nest.” Captain Windsor smirked over at them. “Breakfast is ready. Come get yours before the rest of these vultures eat it all.”
Lana couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled up at her captain’s words. The gals could eat a man out of house and home if given the chance sometimes.
“How are you feeling, Jayson?” Rocky asked as she handed him a plate piled scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and diced fried potatoes.
“Sore. But I’m okay. No broken ribs, thankfully.”
“You got lucky, son. If it hadn’t been for that phone call between you and Lana before the accident, lord knows what your condition would have been in the end.” Captain Windsor nodded at Lana in her statement.
“What’s the word on Senator Hubbard, Colonel Hubbard, and Brenda Hubbard? Rusty is dead, and the mayor is in jail for his connections to Rusty’s crimes. Now all that’s left is those three,” Lana asked as she took the plate that Rocky had handed her.
“Well, I can only say I’m glad the chief of police, as well as the deputy chief, were one of the good guys in this one. Neither one of them liked the mayor and thought he was sleazy as hell. They have recovered Peter’s body. I’m sorry, Jayson. I know he was your friend until you found out what he did for Ashley. Your Lt. said to tell you they did a massive search in Peter’s house. They found letters, audios, and photos that were labeled in the event of his death. It detailed everything he knew and what all had been done.”
“So, he had insurance policies that didn’t do him any good until after he’d died. That sucks massive monkey balls,” Viper said as she walked into the kitchen to join the growing group.
Everyone stood around throwing out theories and talking amongst each other. Something that was always done either at one of their homes or in the kitchen they had at headquarters back home in Houston.
Houston. It seemed just like yesterday she’d left there to come home to take care of her father.
Now, in the span of a couple of weeks, she rekindled her relationship with Jayson and his family. Her kids had their dad and grandparents.
She couldn’t take that away from the twins. Especially now that she had more on the way.
Twins? Holy fuck, she was pregnant with twins…again. She really needed to talk to the doctor about this shit.
It was a good thing the kitchen had an open space that allowed you to look into the living room with a bar between the kitchen and the living room. Otherwise, they would have to redo the living room and kitchen to make it bigger to accommodate everyone standing around.
“Oh, fuck!” Hawk yelled out from the living room, drawing everyone’s attention.
“This is Channel 8 News coming to you with breaking news. Senator Dennis Hubbard and his wife Brenda were just arrested by the FBI on major charges that expand a multitude of crimes ranging from homicide, human trafficking, arms deals, insider trading, and drugs. We have learned recently that the senator’s wife had a secret past that included her getting run out of her hometown after instigating a young girl being raped and pushing her to commit suicide. We’re now learning that the senator himself has a past that results in working with the cartels in regard to arms deals, drugs,and human trafficking. Yesterday, Channel 8 News learned that Senator Hubbard legally adopted all three of Brenda Hubbard’s sons. All three sons were a part of his underground business. The FBI recently arrested Colonel Hubbard in NY during an undercover sting in cooperation with a task force out of Houston, Texas. All assets are now frozen for these three individuals because of the investigations they are facing. We have recently learned that the middle child of the Hubbards was pronounced dead after a stand-off with the Hellburn Falls sheriff’s office when they raided the towns well-known bar, Rusty’s, in conjunction to the kidnapping of one of their own. More information will be available on our noon broadcast as they come in.”
Lana looked over at her captain with shocked eyes as she noticed her captain looking at her plate and smiling. What the hell happened while she and Jayson were locked away in their bedroom yesterday?
“Oh, before I forget, Rocky, Sunny, Bueller, Hollywood, and Swift, did you ladies sign the paperwork that the deputy chief himself brought over for you guys last night? We have to give him a decision today about what we plan on doing,” Captain Windsor asked the team, ignoring Lana.
“Decision on what?” Lana asked, getting worried that her team was leaving already.
“Oh, the decision on if we’re moving the task force from Houston to Hellburn Falls. While you two were playing hide the sausage, the deputy chief, the new mayor, the sheriff, and Jayson’s Lt. came by to talk to us. Our team made them wake up to the fact that despite it being a small town, they can no longer hide the fact that there is a real problem that was brought not only to their attention but to every criminal in the world. So, they want us to move from Houston to Hellburn Falls and help them combat a growing issue. I already know you’re staying here sinceyour husband and his family are here. So, now it’s up to me and the rest of the team to decide if we are going to fill your spot in Houston or say fuck it and make the move.”
“You guys would really move here?” Lana asked, hope in her voice for once.
“You’re a part of our family, Lana. Those two over there are part of our family. Yeah, I know family moves away now and then, but not this family. We’ve all given blood, sweat, and fucking tears to be where we are now. That kind of family just doesn’t separate that easily. My vote is we make the move to Hellburn Falls,” Rocky said without hesitation.
“Me too,” Sunny followed suit.
“Eh, I could use a break from the big city living.” Hollywood shrugged as she looked around the room.
“I’m in. I like this place,” Swift agreed with the others.
“I’m closer to home here. So, yeah, I’m good with the move.” Cullen laughed as she and Viper hugged each other enthusiastically.
“That’s right, bitch. No more excuses about coming home to see the rest of us assholes.” Viper laughed as she high-fived Hawk.
“Wait, Cullen and Viper are related to each other?” Jayson asked in confusion.
