“I’m fine. Five minutes.” He cups my cheek, running his thumb over my bottom lip.

“Okay. Five minutes.” I smile softly, leaning into his touch.

He stares at me like he’s trying to memorize me, then drops his hand and walks off. A moment later, the bathroom door slams.

My handbag starts vibrating on the table.

How’s his dick?

I roll my eyes at Kara.

You’re disgusting.

I send it, then type another.

Best night ever!

The little dots dance for only a second before her reply comes through.

Just remember, you’re getting married. Don’t go falling in love over there.

I type out a smart-ass response, then delete it.

She’s right. I’m getting married tomorrow. Staying here will only make it that much harder to leave later. We agreed just one night.

What happens if my uncle finds out where I am, what I’ve been doing? What if my fiancé finds out? If he calls off the wedding, Tommy will be shipped off to Italy to live beneath my Uncle’s thumb. It’s no place for a six-year-old.

Staying here will only make things more difficult.

I’m leaving now. Don’t worry. Heart still in one piece. No feelings have been caught.

I drop my phone into my bag and hurry back into the bedroom. The water is still going, so I quickly shuck out of the robe and pull my dress over my head, smoothing it down as I shuffle from the bedroom.

Grabbing my heels, I drape my purse strap around my chest and jog to the door.

Quietly, I step out into the hall and pull the door shut as silently as possible. Running my fingers through my hair, I try to put myself together and get rid of the freshly fucked look while rushing to the elevators.

As I pass a room with one of the big men standing nearby, a woman steps into the hall with me. She glances behind me then at me, a tiny smile touches her lips.

“Hey,” I give a pathetic little wave, trying to be polite and nonchalant but it’s obvious she knows where I’ve come from.

I quicken my step until I’m running around the corner into the elevator bank. A carriage arrives right away, thank the universe, and the doors sweep open.

In my hurry, I don’t check to see if anyone is inside and nearly fall directly onto the room service cart being wheeled out. Our food.

It smells amazing.

“Sorry,” I mutter, turning to the side and squeezing past him as he exits the elevator.

Once alone, I hit the lobby button and hold my breath until the doors shut, sealing my escape as a success.

I lean against the back wall, taking a deep breath.

Best night I’ve had in a long time.

And probably the best night I’ll have in the future.

The memory of his kisses, his eyes locked on me, how alive he made me feel will be enough to get me through the next portion of my life.
