“Plus, there’s more,” Gabriel continued. “I think you’ll find everything very interesting. You do have a giant sense of humor.”

As James droned on about how the prosecutor’s office was broken, I glanced at what he’d brought. And I smiled bigger than I had when catching Jones off guard. “Well, well. You outdid yourself.”

“I’m glad you approve. Chase and Kendrick are actively preparing some leaked information for the prosecutor’s office. Now, you’ll notice the information could get thrown out in court depending on Worthington’s explanations.”

Another laugh was right there on my lips. “Then I guess I’ll need to ensure there’s an ironclad case against him.” I had the perfect idea of how to make that happen.

“Should I stay for the fireworks?”

“By all means. We’ll just need to stomach the rest of his admonishment of the system of law in our great city.”

“As if he knew what law and order meant.”

I grinned, already enjoying being a member of the Raven Intel.

“Incidentally, I spent a couple hours making Jacob’s life miserable this morning,” I told him.

“You’re purposely taunting him.”

“You know what happens to people who are pushed.” I threw him a look. “And I’m going to keep doing it.”

He turned towards me and I could tell by the rather sly look on his face that whatever else he wanted to say bridged the line of right and wrong. “Then you should know Chase has been using an informant who works with Delgado.”

“What a sneaky thing to do.” While law enforcement sometimes used informants, sometimes their credibility was questionable and could prevent a case from going to trial. “And what information did this informant provide?”

“Locations of warehouses that weren’t on the radar. Maybe party favors, cocaine being his favorite or maybe something else, but itwould seem Delgado has worked very hard to keep the locations off the radar.”

Hot damn. Now I knew exactly how I was going to crawl so far up both Jones’ and Delgado’s asses they’d need to call a proctologist. I’d torch one or more of the warehouses. “Are those locations in these sheets of fine-looking paper?”

His laugh was sardonic. “They are. Let me guess. It’s going to get hot in the city tonight.”

“Something like that.” I pocketed the paperwork, glaring at James as he preached like some goddamn minister.

“Then you might need an explosives expert by your side.”

Now I narrowed my eyes, staring at him quizzically.

“Hey. We both had alternative careers before chaining our souls to the judicial bench.”

“I guess there are some things I don’t know about you, buddy.”

“I guess so.”

“Well, with this I could use your help.”

I scrubbed my jaw as the attorney general began to take questions about Jacob Jones and what he called a corrupted case. I could tear the man apart for that alone. He’d challenged not only Jasmine Guthrie’s credibility but also mine.

Fuck him.

The gloves were off.

“We’re ready to leave when you are, Ms. Sciascia.” The officer couldn’t be more polite, but given he was in his uniform, I was reminded just how potentially dangerous the situation was.

“My little girl is just finishing breakfast. After that, I’ll be ready to go. Twenty minutes?”

He nodded. “We’ll be waiting just outside.”
