“Thinkin’ ‘bout possibilities.” But mating…
“Would they be interested?”
Trey’s question was one he’d asked himself in the middle of the night in his lonely bed. He shrugged while emptying the tray of glasses. “Don’t know.”
And he didn’t know because how could someone want that after just a few days?
“If there’s anything I can do to help, ya know I will.”
“I know, thanks.” He glanced back at Trey. “Did you know ole man Granger? He’s selling his small holding out on the Hudson?” Kendrick needed something else to think about, and knowing Trey’s struggle with balancing his new mating, he thought this might be a solution.
“I didn’t hear that.”
“Yep, he’s movin’ in with his daughter after a fall left him with a dodgy hip. Think it’s just gone on the market. You're acquainted with Granger, maybe there’s a deal to be struck there. Ya know, if someone was looking to set up a home that had land for their little chick. Also, maybe it’s time to get someone to do some of the bar work to free up your time in the evenin’s.” Only it would benefit Kendrick too because it would allow him the chance to find someone to help Trey if he should decide to take a trip—leave—and try something different.
“Is that right?”
Kendrick chuckled at Trey trying to play it cool and failing. “It is. Way I see it, you could take a trip out there and have a look for yourself before it gets busy. And say I put out some feelers to see if anyone is lookin’ for some bar work?”
“Don’t suppose it would hurt.”
Alone some ten minutes later, Kendrick pulled out his phone and opened the group chat.
Kendrick:Gonna be home this evening, you both free for a call?
Kendrick waited, watching as dots appeared.
Rue:Yep. Monty has Emmy right now, but I’ll answer yes for him too.
Kendrick whistled through his teeth as he slipped the phone into the back of his jeans and continued to set up the bar. Anticipation gave a pep to his stride as he finished what he was doing, already thinking about what else was in Monty’s box that maybe he could add to.
Chapter Seventeen
Rue
Rue blinked the sleep out of his eyes and the room came into focus. It was still early, the sun barely up. The blinds were open, and he could see pinks creating patterns in the white wispy clouds. Then the nose pressing into his armpit got all his attention. The man plastered against him breathed out and worked to get closer.
The sense of strangeness came and stayed when there was no large body crammed in behind him. It made him a little uneasy to realize how much he missed it. How was it that someone could get addicted to something so fast?
They had been doing this—whatever this was—since they’d got back, and Rue admitted it sort of worked. If he didn’t think too hard on what was missing, Kendrick’s presence with them, in person.
Two weeks in, and last night was the first time Rue had stayed over after the call with Kendrick. It wasn’t like they talked about it, it just kind of happened.
Just happened!his rhino snorted. You curled around Monty and didn’t let go!
Both of us were in a post-orgasmic haze.
Are you saying that’s the only reason we stayed?
I don’t want to send out the wrong message.Rue didn’t want that. Getting his kinky needs met was one thing, but having a relationship while Kendrick was absent from the bed feltwrong. His uneasiness grew when the problem was his needs was growing so fast that it made it harder to leave after the calls.
They’d settled into a routine where he would go to Monty’s when Kendrick planned to call. There were no dinner plans. No dating. No misunderstandings about what they were doing. Had last night shifted a boundary?
It sure as hell felt like it.
“Whatsup?” Monty murmured, his hot breath tickling Rue’s underarm.
Rue chuckled, shifting back to hear a complaint. “Where ya going?”
