I swing around, crossing my arms over my chest, and glare at him.

He shoves his buggy into the corral and walks closer. “Bet you’re real happy these days, huh?”

My smile is instant. Why, yes, I am. “Sure am, Cal.”

“You fuck your way to manager yet?”

My whole body stiffens, and a gasp sounds behind me—probably Liv. I try my damndest not to show him a reaction.

“You’re a real piece of work, you know that?”

He scoffs. “Me!? The only reason you have a job is because you have a tight pussy between your legs.”

“What the hell!?” Pacey shrieks.

My blood boils, but I keep my expression blank. “Jealousy isn’t a good look for you, Cal. But let’s be honest, your face doesn’t help, either. Don’t be a petty bitch becauseyoufucked up and lost your job.” His nostrils flare. “Supplying Travis with drugs when you knew his history. I should turn you in!” I get in his space, and he stares down at me, trying to appear smug, but his face is turning a deep shade of red. I’m getting under his skin.Good.

“You don’t scare me, Ellie.”

Does he not know my father is a lawyer? A damn good one, too. I’m positive he could find some sort of loophole. Something to scare him with, at least.

“You’d have to be a little bit bigger.” His eyes fall to my shoes. “Don’t have the hooker heels on today, I see.”

I clench my teeth, wishing I had my knife on me, just to spook him.

Instead, I peel my shoes off. I’m still wearing heels, but they’re only two inches. His brows shoot up, eyes going wide.

I press the point of one heel into his chest. “I don’t wear these to be taller or more intimidating.” I dig in harder. “I wear them in case I need to take one off and stab you with it!”

“What the fuck?” he yells, stepping back. “You’re crazy.”

“Ellie…” Liv says, her tone worried.

I spin away, open the car door, and toss my shoes inside. Liv jumps in, then Pacey. Before I can climb in, Calvin whistles. Why is he still here?! Did he not catch my threat?

“So that’s the car he was talking about? He let you drive? Your pussy must be good. That’s why he demanded that clause be put in my contract. He didn’t want to share it.”

My heart thunders, rage making my fingertips tingle. This motherfucker. Ihatehim.

I ignore him, not wasting more time on him. My hands are shaking as I take the driver’s seat. I don’t care about his dumb contract or the fact that Travis never told me it was his idea. I wouldn’t touch Calvin if he were the last man on Earth.

Pushing the clutch to the floor, I start the car. My legs wobble, nerves firing on all cylinders. I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself, but his nasty words repeat in my head.

My fingers wrap around the gear stick, yanking hard. I’m so frazzled, I don’t pay attention to the gear. Travis only showed me once, around his street, how to drive this thing. I’ve driven manuals before, but this one’s ancient. It doesn’t work like others. I’m in such a hurry to get away, I hit the gas, and instead of pulling out, I’m in reverse.

And I back up—right into Calvin.

“AHH!” A scream pierces the air, followed by a thud.

I slam the brake and clutch to the floor. “Was that…”

Liv’s eyes are huge as they meet mine.

“Oh, my God,” Pacey whispers.

My eyes flick to the rearview mirror. All I see is the back of Pacey’s head.

“You ran him over.” Her tone is calm, not matching her words.
