No, but it’s been two weeks since we last talked, and while we were scouting Warm Springs rapid, someone said something about your new movie and how hot you were in one of the scenes, and I got distracted.

Derek:

Which scene?

Donovan:

Apparently it involves a missing shirt and engine grease.

Derek:

I thought you said you would never get distracted by my hotness.

Donovan:

No, YOU brought up hot distractions. And speaking of distractions, what’s all this I’m hearing about you not showing up to your press tour?

Derek:

I’ve been there. Just not in person.

Donovan:

Where are you?

Derek:

Ethan, my publicist, thinks staying out of the spotlight will bother my mom enough that she’ll slip up again, and I agree with him.

It’s taking a lot of coordination to lie low without breaking obligations, but I think in the long run it’ll be good for everyone.

Donovan:

That didn’t answer my question.

Derek:

I’m letting my costar lead the press junket, and she’s killing it. I’m usually the one at the forefront, but she was phenomenal in this movie and is marketing it so well.

Am I too full of myself?

Donovan:

Do you really want me to answer that?

Derek:

Probably not. Honestly, I think I got so used to being the best—thank you, crippling fear of failure—that I forgot how to share. I’m trying to fix that and let other people shine.

Like you said on that first day on the river, it’s time I took a step back and let someone else have his day in the sun. (For the record, Jonah James is four months older than me.)

Donovan:
