Derek:

I figured something out over the last several days while I was waiting for you to get off the river.

Donovan:

Do tell. And are you dead set on this texting thing? A phone call would be so much easier.

Derek:

At the moment I’m surrounded by people, so unless you want them to overhear exactly how I feel about you…

Donovan:

UGH. Fine. Texting it is. What did you figure out? Something about yourmom?

Derek:

No, I’m still waiting on that front. I think she’s being cautious and keeping Hot Scoop stories about me vague and indifferent. (For her, anyway.)

I figured out why it was so easy to trust you on the river. It was because you saw me. No matter how hard I tried to hide, you saw my pain and fear and forced me to give it a voice, and I will forever be grateful to you for that.

Donovan:

When I think back on that week, I kind of hate how pushy I was.

Derek:

You weren’t.

Donovan:

I was.

Derek:

I needed it.

Donovan:

Have you talked to your friends about your perfectionism?

DEREK.

Derek:

I will. Eventually.

Cole’s wife just had their baby, so his focus needs to be with them, and Liam needs to finish a couple of songs for his next album. I’m waiting for a good time to unleash my issues on them.

Donovan:

It’s just going to get harder, Derek. You know that, right?

Derek:

When things calm down when it comes to my mom, or when I get some answers, I’ll worry less about how they’ll react.

How was the river this week?
