I can’t say I blame them for their curiosity, even though I’d prefer they didn’t ask them in a room full of his teammates, but unfortunately, I’m still asking myself the same questions.
I’m already backing away from them as I hold my hands up. “I’m so not talking about this right now.”
“Party pooper,” Callie scolds.
I simply give her a shrug. “Sorry. Girls’ brunch topic—if you’re lucky.”
Emma laughs but still doesn’t lower her voice. “You mean ifyou’re lucky.”
Ah, hell, I walked right into that one.
Spinning around, I march right over to the empty seat next to Beck and try not to notice any of the players now looking my way after Emma’s comment.
“How much shit did they give you, Killer?” Beck pulls my chair closer to his.
“Enough,” I huff out. “I’d say the conversation isn’t over by a long shot either.”
Beck takes a sip of his drink with that cocky smirk on his face. ‘I’m sure I’ll be up next.”
“Oh yeah, I’m sure the guys will be a lot more relentless than the girls,” I say sarcastically.
Beck snorts. “Fair. Dex will be the worst about it, but then you have Lucie to deal with.” Beck carefully brushes some of my hair behind my back then trails his hand softly down my spine. “Does your ‘don’t ask me if I’m sure’ remark still stand?”
My eyes cut to him with a smirk. “It still stands.”
Chapter 21
Beck
We make it through dinner and three songs before Lucie’s pulling Jensen out to dance and the guys surround me at our table.
“So, you and Jensen?” Dex asks, taking the seat next to me.
“So, twins?” I match his tone with a cocky grin then turn to Will who’s now sitting on my other side. “Has it really sunk in yet? All the baby making?—”
“Fucking hell,” he mutters. “Yeah, then I feel better when I remember that Adam has to experience it too.”
Adam holds his hands up across from me. “At least I got to guilt trip the fuck out of you. Had you running miles with you trying to sneak back in her apartment.”
Tripp laughs. “Gah, that was the best story, but we’re getting off topic. The girls sent us with a purpose.”
Yeah, I’m not surprised.
“Look, guys, it’s plain and simple. We’re not dating, we’re just doing no-strings attached while we live together. If you could all go ahead and accept it and move on, that would be great.”
Adam starts to laugh. “This is going to blow up in your face.”
“Lucie’s going to murder you.” Dex leans back in his chair. “Truly, if you make Jensen cry, she will.”
Tripp shrugs. “That will save us from having to pick sides when this all goes to shit.”
“It’s not going to go to shit or blow up in my face. Jensen and I are both on the same page here. Now can we all be grown-ups and stop acting like this is high school?”
Will shakes my shoulder. “I almost feel bad for you, but then again, no, I don’t. The girls will eat you alive if this goes south. I get you and Callie have this friendship, but she will help Lucie bury your body.”
Dex perks up. “Actually, you know what? With all the pushing you did with me and Lucie, keep doing what you’re doing. Have your little benefits—whatever the fuck it is. You remember that pass I gave you? Yeah, it’s over now. I’ll be sure to point out all your bullshit and will say I told you so at the end of this.”
I honestly shouldn’t have expected anything less with the pestering I gave him about Lucie, but hell. Shutting my eyes, I pinch the bridge of my nose and grit out, “It’s not like that between us, just drop it.”
