“Take this off.”She tugged on his pajama top.“And hold me while we sleep.”

He removed his top and pulled her back against him with a soft hum.Her head rested on his arm and his warmth surrounded her.It was perfect.

“I was wrong,” he said quietly into her ear.“Therewassomething that could make this night better.”

Samantha fell asleep within only a few minutes, but not Trent. He was still reeling from everything.Still enjoying every second of this. When she called out his name as pleasure overcame her, it was the most incredible thing he’d ever heard. And now, holding her naked, sated body in his arms while she slept, nothing could be better.

He hadn’t planned on any of that when he’d come into her room.Ever since the last time he’d heard her crying, alone and scared, he’d stopped at her door each night to listen, just in case. And tonight, he’d heard her crying once again. She’d been so lost in her own turmoil, she hadn’t even heard him enter. She hadn’t seemed to know he was there until he pulled her into his arms.At that moment, he’d had no intention except to comfort her.

She hadn’t said why she’d been crying, but he could guess. She wanted to marry him, wanted a life with him.Somehow, even though he didn’t deserve that, he knew it was true. And she believed that an inability to bear children for him would make him reject her.But she was wrong. He wanted her as his wife, partner, friend, lover. He would find a way to convince her.

Her alluring scent filled his nostrils as he breathed in deeply, his lips turning up in a smile. He whispered softly, “I love you, Samantha Allister.”

When he woke a few hours later, she was smiling at him again. The room was just beginning to lighten.

“Have you been watching me sleep?”

“I like watching you sleep. It’s the one time you don’t have any worries or responsibilities, and you look so peaceful.”

As he shifted to face her, he got a glimpse under the blanket at her gloriously naked body.He quickly moved his eyes back to her face, and she giggled.

“You may look.”She lifted the blanket. He couldn’t stop his gaze from gliding over every enticing inch of her.

“I told you I wasn’t a perfect gentleman.”Gently, he brushed his fingertip over her nipple.

“Mmmm.Don’t start that. You’ll only make me want more.”

“Perhaps tonight we can have a second lesson.”

“I think tonight it will be your turn for pleasure.”

He shook his head.“It isn’t fair that you know multiple ways to pleasure me, and I know but one way with you.I need more lessons so I can have more arrows in my quiver.”

“Is that some sort of euphemism?”

“Not intentionally.”Heat crept into Trent’s cheeks.

“Well, how can I possibly argue with your request?Especially after you were such a star pupil last night?”

He laughed and kissed her forehead.“I need to get out of your bed before a maid comes in.”

She pulled him down and pressed her lips to his, then snuggled against him for a moment.“Now, you may go.”

ChapterSeventeen

By the time he was dressed, Maggie was already gone from her bed.Not surprisingly, she was with Ash.There was an entire sideboard filled with food. The servants had pulled out all the stops with the master at home.

“Good morning, Ash.”

“Trent!”Maggie’s mouth was full and when Trent raised a brow, she covered it with her hand and continued chewing.

“Good morning, Maggie.”

Trent filled a plate and sat down in the seat to Ash’s right. His seat, Ash had said.“I hope you slept well,” he said as he placed his napkin on his lap.

“I did, thank you.Did you?”He gave Trent a knowing look.Of course he knew.Hopefully that didn’t mean there was already gossip spreading.
