His eyeballs nearly pop out of his head. “No way. She wouldn’t do that.”

“She told me directly that she did. In fact, she pretty much used those exact words. How do you feel about those non-existent deceitful bones now?”

His head falls back, and he breathes, “Holy shit. Tanner has never said a word about it. Maybe he doesn’t know.”

“He knows. She told him right away. They got separated immediately after it happened.”

He nods his head as if things are coming back to him and falling into place. “So that’s why Fallon was hell bent on getting out of New York City. She wanted to come home to her family. Now I know why. That’s fucking nuts. Poor Tanner.”

“What about me?”

He’s silent for a few beats. “I admit maybe she’s not exactly who I thought she was, but I still don’t see her as calculated. Trust me, I’ve been around a lot of calculated women in my life. Fallon isn’t one of them. What did she say when they saw you?”

“They didn’t see me. I was emotional and ran out of there before they could catch me. I came straight here.”

“Because I’m your person?” he says in a lighthearted manner.

I narrow my eyes at him. “Don’t push it. I have other candidates for the position,” I deadpan.

He silently laughs. “Nah, it’s me. You love me. Will you change my name in your phone toMy Person?” He gasps. “Even better, I want to be your emergency contact.”

I roll my eyes. “I’ll think about it. It might be too much of a commitment. Honestly, I don’t need an emergency contact. I need a person I can trust to clear my browser history, lie to my lawyer, and clean the crime scene.”

He smiles. “One day it will all be me.” He sighs. “Why don’t you just go back over there and have an adult conversation with them?”

I lift my head in shock. “What? They were two seconds away from having sex. I’m not walking back into the lion’s den of debauchery.”

He shakes his head. “I feel like there’s probably a reasonable explanation for everything. Instead of crying about it and making up stories in your head, let’s just go find out what it is. Your father loves you and wouldneverpurposefully do anything to hurt you. Fallon may have a few more imperfections than I thought, but she’s just not like that.”

He stands and lifts me like a bride as if I weigh nothing. “Let’s go. I’ll go with you.”

“What? No way. He doesn’t know about us or the baby.”

“Then let’s just tell him. I’m sick of secrets. I’m sick of hiding. You told me you love me. I love you. We’re married. We’re having a baby. He’s your father. He’s my coach. Let’s all just have a little chat and clear the air.”

I scrunch my face in disgust. “Ugh. How the hell did you become the mature one?”

He smiles with pride. “Holy crap. You’re right.” Walking usback inside, his face turns more serious. “I want to do this. It’s time.”

I grab his face and look into his blue eyes. “I hear you. Please just let me get through my season, and then we’ll do this together. I promise.”

His shoulders fall. Disappointment is written all over his handsome face.

“I’ll go over there and talk to them by myself,” I offer. “I won’t mention you or the baby. It will just be about their relationship and my relationship with both of them. You’re right. I should confront this head on instead of letting it fester and making up stories in my head.”

He places my feet on the ground and mumbles, “Fine,” before walking away from me.

I know he’s disappointed, but I only have the mental energy for one issue at a time. Daylen is an inherently honest person, but I know my dad. He’s not going to take the news of Daylen and me very well. I don’t want any more drama than I already have in my life right now.

I find him a few minutes later back in the nursery, working on the crib. Poking my head in the doorway, I say, “I love it, by the way. It’s beautiful. And perfect. And I still hope it’s a boy so you have to redo everything.”

He basically just grunts. He’s still pissed at me.

“I’m going to head over to Dad’s,” I continue, but he’s still giving me the silent treatment.

I wrack my brain for a way to get a response from him. I don’t want to leave with him pissed at me. “I want to wait ten more minutes to make sure they finish whatever they were about to do. It’s Sunday. I know your favorite weekly holiday falls on this day. How about I suck your big dick while I wait?”

His head pops up immediately. “Tell me more about this plan.”
