I convinced her to try the gaeran mari, which was a rolled egg omelet, and the kimchi rice. It was the simplest out of the lineup of food. Everyone else was used to Korean food and what they came with.
“Baby, why you didn’t bring no chicken wings or fries? I don’t know nothin’ ’bout this shit,” she complained.
I chuckled and shook my head. “Mama, it’s other things in life beside fries and chicken wings. You need to get used to food outside of American dishes. After you drop baby girl, we goin’ to see the world.”
All she could do was smile. I also saw a twinkle in her eyes when she looked at me. Alexis provided the money but never a chance for her to spread her wings outside of Chattanooga. She was goin’ to fly with me.
Dinner went smooth after she really tried the food without having the mindset of it being nasty. My daughter like the food because Journei and Belle ate the most out of everyone.
Sending a hundred dollars for every meal wasn’t me being funny. Mama could really eat. She often made me think she was eating for three, not just two.
Hunz and I cleaned the kitchen up as our women relaxed in the living room. If someone would’ve told me, me and my brotha was having kids in the same year, I would’ve laughed in their face.
I never thought I would be in love the way I was, let alone on the journey to being a father. Overall, I was grateful and content with my life. There wasn’t a thing I wanted to change.
As we finished up, Hunz offered me a beer, which I declined. I wanted to get his view on somethin’. He knew Journei, but I was still learning.
“I bought a couple houses this week. One in the Ville and then one in Cancun. Do you think she’ll accept them?”
“She’s not materialistic, but because it’s coming from you… yeah. She loves hard, so she’s goin’ to want to be wherever you are. But I think with this baby coming, she’s goin’ to do what’s right for her and now y’all.”
I nodded from his response; however, I didn’t want Journei to feel like staying with me was an obligation she owed to our daughter. She had free rein to do as she pleased.
I gathered Journei’s belongings because she wasn’t finishing her bed rest there at Hunz’s crib. She was goin’ to be with me, sleeping under me, and allowing me to touch wherever I desired.
“Christian, what are you doin’?” she asked as she walked in on me zipping her suitcase.
“I was ready to go, so I packed your stuff. You want to do a quick walk-through, or you good?”
That infectious laugh of hers pleasured my ears. “I’m on bed rest and shouldn’t be moving around. Dr. Seokjin said my body needs to relax.”
“You can get rest in your own bed. And trust, once we get home, that body will be relaxed.”
She laughed at my words once more, but I was far from joking. She wasn’t staying there another night. I had plans for us both to relax.
Turning around, she shook her head and lightly chuckled. I followed behind with her bags and a smile on my face. Us beingapart wasn’t happenin’ no more. She’d better gon’ with that bull junk.
We said our goodbyes to Hunz and Belle and headed up the highway. Having her in the passenger’s seat made me more than happy. I was overjoyed to have my woman back.
A man that loved his woman would tell how not her having around affected them. My woman made life easier for me. It was the love from my woman that took the weight of the world off my shoulders.
The drive to Nashville was dope. We shared memories about college and how our worlds collided, but we never noticed. We attended some of the same events and never ran into one another.
That blew me the most because Journei would’ve been claimed and still claimed if I met her back then. She was too good to pass up on.
“Baby where are we goin’?” she questioned as I passed the exit to take us to the condo.
“Home.”
Journei
Happiness. That was what I felt sitting beside Christian. I could deny the merry feeling he provided, but that would be a lie straight from the pits. I had been in good spirits since Hunz texted that man to come over. I was in a jovial mood.
It was goin’ on ten at night, and my baby daddy decided to play games. I wanted my bed, and he drove right past the exit. I wasn’t upset. I was just ready to lay the fuck down. He fed me good, and I was tired.
“We can’t be goin’ home if you passed the exit. I’m tired, baby,” I complained.
“Five more minutes, mama. We’re almost there.”
