“Your wife had many things in her name. I did a little bit of homework upon your arrival. It seems as if she is quite a buyer. I have found houses all over the country and a vacation home in Cancun. She also has a brand of vending machines that’s doing fantastic in sales. She has a restaurant as well as two clubs and a few stocks that we can get into later, but for now, you have many options to choose from, Ms. Evans.”
His list compared to my list was different indeed. I knew of her vending machine company and the two clubs. Everything else was new to me. Hearing her assets made it that much easier to choose.
“I don’t want a muthafuckin’ thing from that bitch but her signature on a dotted line,” I responded calmly.
He gave me a look of confusion. There probably was an expectance of me to ask for half of everything, but truthfully, I wanted no ties to Alexis. She could keep everything she stole and worked for.
“Ms. Evans, I advise you to rethink your decision. You have a child to think about,” Mr. Forbes suggested, but he only had one job. Do what the fuck I said.
“My child has a father that will make sure he is good at all times. He also has a mother that is far from broke. Draw up the damn papers and have one of these fake ass cops serve it to her,” I all but shouted at him.
Calmness was no longer surrounding us. I wasn’t there for games, nor was I there to be told what to do. With my voice elevating, it brought on a different vibe. His smile had faded, and nervousness had surfaced.
“OK. How about I draw up both what you’ve asked and what you could get if you changed your mind? Take them both, and in the morning, give me a call on your final decision.”
I stared him down. I didn’t like to repeat myself, especially when I knew my words weren’t tripped and came out clear. I was ready to lay hands on a white boy I swear.
As I watched and waited on what I came for to be processed, a text from Alexis came through. Amusement replaced the irritation. I laughed a genuine laugh after I read what was texted.
Hoe Ass Wife: I know it may not be any good now, but I still love you. Can we meet to talk?
Me: Girl, go to hell!
Hoe Ass Wife: Journei, you’re still my wife.
Me: Not for long.
Her number was blocked from my phone and then deleted along with her text thread. I had nothin’ for her. Meeting while being very pregnant was a bad idea period. My son wouldn’t be harmed by no one.
Twenty minutes later, Mr. Forbes stood in front of me with two sets of documents. He handed me the papers I came there for and then held up the alternative ones.
“Ms. Evans, you’re emotionally wrecked. I’ve seen this in many women. Take these, look them over, and think about what I said.” He extended the papers, and I snatched them out of his hands followed by a set of rolling eyes.
I couldn’t leave his office fast enough. By the time my heels hit the pavement, my fingers were already dialing my baby daddy. I didn’t like that half-ass attorney he referred.
“What’s wrong, mama?”
That was the type of shit I liked. He was concerned from the jump. Even if I was perfectly fine, that man wanted to make sure I was more than that. My cheeks hiked up, and the feeling of wanting him near was presented.
“Your lawyer is aggy, baby. He has a hard time doin’ what he’s told,” I answered.
A chuckle left his throat as well as, “Eat with me, and we’ll talk about it. I’m sending you my location.”
“Not you feedin’ your face and didn’t think to invite me before you got started.”
“Cut it out, mama. I just got here. Check your phone and come to me.” With that, he hung up, ending our conversation.
That was somethin’ that had started to irk me. Whenever he was done talkin’, I never got a proper disconnection over the phone. It was always him having the last and final word. I wasn’t used to that.
I walked to my car and got ready to hop in when I noticed a small note under the windshield wiper. I scanned the parking lot to see if anything or anyone looked out of place. I saw nothin’, so I grabbed the note and quickly got in the car.
Opening the note, then reading it, my body went from 97.3 degrees Fahrenheit to off the charts. It was one thing to come for me, but to threaten my son that wasn’t even here yet changed everything.

Journei calling me directly after her appointment with Mike was expected. I had a feeling she would go in wanting to leave with nothin’ Alexis had. I briefed him on the type of person mama was. From what I’d seen, she wanted the easiest way out of things, and detaching herself from their union completely was it for her.
I sent her my location before ending the call. Now I was standing outside of Chips waiting for her to arrive. She had a thing for fries and wanted them as a side with every dish she indulged.
