“It’s perfect,” Alec agrees.

“She’sperfect,” Mason corrects. Truer words have never been spoken.

“When I fell in love with my best friend’s sister, years ago, I never thought I’d have to share her.” I look around at the guys. “But, I’m glad it’s you guys.”

“Us too, dude. It was worth putting up with you, asshole.” Dominic lightly punches my shoulder.

“I’m going to call Rory,” Luc announces.

“Give her some time to be a normal girl.” Mason advocates for Ro. “She can’t do that if you’re calling her every half an hour like a clinger.”

“I’ve called her once,” Luc says distractedly as he dials her number. “I just…I need to check on her. I don’t like her being there by herself.”

“She has Mum,” I jumps in defensively but I get where he’s coming from. It would probably give us all peace of mind calling her.

Luc doesn’t answer that. When Rory doesn’t pick up straight away, he gets up and starts pacing with the phone on speaker.

“Hey, Luci,” we hear Rory answer.

“Hey, gorgeous,” Luc says, relieved. “Having fun?”

“Uh-huh!” We hear Rory answer, excitedly. “We’re just getting a coffee, then we’ll go find some boots and head home.”

“Are you becoming a coffee addict?” Luc says with a grin on his face.

“Blame Maverick,” Rory retorts. I grin, almost imagining the small smirk lingering in her words.

“Hey,” Maverick grumbles. “Don’t put this on me.”

Rory and Luc go back and forth. Rory’s quiet for a while before the line goes silent, just the chatter of people in the background.

Luc frowns. “Rory?”

“Something’s wr—“ Rory’s words are cut off.

“Rory!” Luc demands. The rest of us scramble to our feet.

Luc repeats her name multiple times but there’s no answer—just the scuffle of feet.

‘Beep! Beep! Beep!’

All our phones go off with Alec’s phone alarm.

My heart drops when I go into the app. It’s from Rory’s phone. No, no, no,no!

“Car, now!” Luc orders Dominic, who sprints for the keys in the house.

“Laptop!” Alec runs after Dominic.

“Come on!” I say to the twins and Luc.

We’re flying down the lane way when I see an incoming call from Mum.

“Mum!” My heart thuds. “We got Rory’s phone alert. Where are you? Is she okay?”

“They took her!” She sobs, uncontrollably. “Jace, they took her! I couldn’t stop them!”

Luc snatches my phone from me. “Who, Helen?” He demands, darkness storming in his eyes. “Who took her?”
