“I’ve kept an eye on The Black Roses over the years. Well, triedto. Fallon’s done a damn good job. Getting anything on them is just about impossible. I mean the systems are incredible,” Alec tells me, his eyes bright.
“Well, according to Fallon, you aren’t bad yourself,” I say playfully.
“He would be awesome to work a case with. Was he being serious?” Alec questions.
“Oh, yeah.” I nod. “Fallon wouldn’t have said anything if he wasn’t.”
Alec grins, looking the most excited I’ve ever seen him.
My mind drifts to the accident. I wonder if they heard about the crash.
We don’t know who was in the car that crashed into us. It was intentional, we know that but it could have been anyone.
Luc wasn’t with us so it seems more like they were after me than him but how did they know it was us in Jace’s mustang?
It’s less like they were trying to kill us and more like they were trying to scare us.
Whoever it was could have easily taken me while we were out.Why didn’t they?
“Where are Helen and Devon?” Maverick rumbles behind me. “I’m surprised they left us alone today.”
“They went to check out the progress on the house.” Jace pulls out his phone to let the guys look at the photos his parents took.
I pout when they purposely angle the phone so that I can’t see it. Excitement bubbles up in me now that I know tomorrow I get to see the house.
“So, what’s the actual plan?” Mase throws out, not opening his eyes.
My fingers slowly drag through his waves, gently scraping my nails where his hair meets his head. A quiet groan rumbles from his chest.
I smirk and continue playing, occasionally skimming my nails across his scalp.
His eyes leisurely flick open, heat dancing excitedly in his warm blues.
Something tells me I’m walking the thin line of Mase’s control.
“The plan is,” Jace smirks at Mase and I, “to tie up any loose strings. Mav, Mase and I will go back for the cars and our shit while Rory, Luc, Alec and Dom go to the house. Dom will know how to answer any of the construction guys' questions onshit, it’s a shorter drive for Alec and obviously we can’t take Luc and Rory back to Hannah’s. It makes sense for you four to go straight to the house.”
I frown. “I don’t like us all splitting up,” I admit.
Jace’s gaze softens. “I know, Ro but we need our stuff. Mainly the coffee machine,” he says with a straight face, trying to lighten the mood.
I smile, relaxing into Maverick’s arms curled around me.
“I suppose that caramel latte was pretty good,” I offer.
“Damn straight.” Mav kisses my forehead when I lean my head back to smile at him.
Mav somehow managed to get me closer so I’m flush up against him. I lay my head back on his shoulder and he nuzzles into my neck with his five o’clock shadow.
I turn my head to kiss his jaw, my fingers stretch around the back of his neck.
Mav gently captures my mouth in a slow, sweet kiss that has heat stirring between us.
I’m acutely aware of the guys—their attention on us.
I feel Luc climb up my body and his lips swap out Maverick’s. Luc’s large hand cups my face as he kisses me deeply.
Maverick’s lips drop to my neck. They trail a scorching path up to my ear.
